I wish I could just like skip ahead to where the fediverse is huge. Like where every post has lots of discussion and comments and each community has lots of posts and engagement. I know it will take time and the growth won’t happen overnight though

happening on 1st July, when all third-party app shut and layman redditors start to care

[-] daniskarma@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

If a few months when hard monetization measures take place more people will move.

Reddit wants to close 3rd party apps because they get in the way of their monetization program.

I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing "paid only" posts over reddit, like in quora.

This will be the day. Hopefully we can get the Lemmy apps a bit more done by then. I've heard some reddit app devs will start working on Lemmy apps.

I just hope a lot of the bigger instances can do something to withstand the massive hit they're going to take from the user influx. I've heard some users have to wait ages to post on them, then you have folks like me on our own instances not able to see swathes of comments because federation is backed up.

I really like this platform, but those issues will turn a lot of people off.

Another thing I like to think of that's tangentially related, is the "federation" of apartment buildings and houses (in some cases) where they grow their own food, have their own Lemmy instance and produce their own power. The return of a very real sense of community.

We can get there!

I've always been a lurker, but I'm finding it more easier to get involved here. Probably because it's all new and I don't think I'm going to get trolled for having a say. Heard a lot of lurkers say the same, we're finally happy to participate again lol.

You're right, since it's new I feel like its the best time to start interacting

Lemmy's avatar do be looking adorable though.

I am more or less a minute old here in Fediverse. About to delete my 11 year old account in Reddit.

I will be doing the same at end of month. 10 years on Reddit. 150k karma spent years building going nuke it all for Lemmy with no regrets.

[-] Fredselfish@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

Been here two weeks just saw my first repost here. Good to be home.

If we create a post with the title "the frontpage of the internet" and upvoted all we can, would it appear on google results when people search for it? Used to work for reddit (or is just a meme and doesn't work at all, I don't know).

[-] memchr@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

spez is fediverse salesman of the year

[-] ihavenopeopleskills@kbin.social 0 points 1 year ago

I prefer kbin, but this is still hilarious XD

[-] Deceptichum@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

I don’t really care either way, but I’m getting sick of people conflating Lemmy with the Fediverse. You’re not on Lemmy, you’re on various different platforms and communities, you don’t own it all, it’s not all Lemmy.

[-] frozengriever@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Seeing this from Lemmy so it's all connected anyway.

[-] The_Spicy_Wedge@kbin.social 0 points 1 year ago

+1 for Kbin, I posted this comment from there
