Surprised lemmy.ml hasn't defederated that instance, given the massive amount of brigading, racism and blatant misinformation that their users encourage.

lemmy.world, while much saner, does have its drawbacks. Anyone know of any similar instances that I can join?

do they moderate like lemmy.world too? defederating instances like hexbear and all? that is what I'm looking for, right now

edit: nvm, just saw their post! seems like they do care. will be making my account there as well

they defederate the troll instances as well? That's basically what I want. A decently sane crowd

You can view their federated and blocked instances list here: https://sopuli.xyz/instances

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see blocked instances. I agree they might be a good fit for you.

What would be similar to world? It’s the largest instance. There’s nothing similar/close.

[-] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 year ago

That really doesn’t matter as long as your instance is federated with .world.

I just made an account on .zip because I am annoyed with the instance owner having an obvious agenda. Heybear isn’t blocked here either, but I like to do that myself. Certainly better than having .world and .ml pre select even the all feed by defederating, I really hate having someone else preselect for me before I can make a block or subscribe decision myself.

I'm not referring to the size of the instance. but the instances that are federated/defederated with it. Like how lemmy.world moderates to keep the troll instances such as hexbear out of the local threads

[-] willya@lemmyf.uk -5 points 1 year ago

How is it a troll instance?

[-] V0lD@programming.dev 6 points 1 year ago

It is so obviously a troll instance that I have a hard time assuming that your question is not in bad faith

[-] willya@lemmyf.uk -2 points 1 year ago

Haven’t bothered looking at it. All I’ve seen from comments is it’s a bunch of people confused about their gender and they hate “libs”.

[-] a1_15@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

their they/them tags are a blatant mockery of trans people. they're nothing more than a nuisance and are best contained in their echo chamber, where they can do whatever it is they do but to each other

[-] Pandantic@midwest.social 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Hexbear gives all users options to specify their pronouns, and is very pro-trans and lgbtq. Do your research before making such claims!

[-] a1_15@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

I don't know if this is satire or not... But just incase it isn't: no, they aren't pro trans or pro lgbtq. They purposely pick those pronouns and go around to post racist stuff, bigotry, chinese propoganda and all the accompanying junk. Typical online terrorism.

I'm definitely not a fan of hexbear, but half of their staff is queer/trans.

And I haven't see any racist and bigoted posts from Hexbear users. Care to supply proof?

Here's an image and link to their Code of Conduct, to which the first two rules are literally:

  • We are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, personal appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, religion, nationality, or other similar characteristic.
  • Do not use homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, ableist, and other reactionary aliases or other nicknames. "Ironic" prejudice is just prejudice.

So, unless you'd like to supply some proof, from my own anecdotal and hard evidence, they seem to support the LGBTQ community and use pronouns to show respect.

Weird. Maybe they themselves have defederated from my instance as I never see any of their posts.

[-] Pandantic@midwest.social -2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It’s not, it’s a 3-year-old instance that is a leftist umbrella community that aligns closely with left unity, socialism, and communism. They are very anti-capitalist, pro-lgbtq (why they have pronouns with their names), and they don’t have a downvote button.

They say “shitposting is a culture here”, but they mostly leave it to their own communities. They have been defederated until recently, so it’s just recently become a hot-button issue. .world defederated, my instance (Midwest.social) did not. I don’t mind them. And, like .ml or lemmynsfw, if I did I would block them myself.

[-] dangblingus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

dbzer0 literally says as a rule "No Tankie Shit" yet they have HB federated....

[-] Lileath@lemmy.blahaj.zone -1 points 1 year ago

Where did you see racism from hexbear users? Brigading kinda happens, although it is mostly just them being more vocal than the average lemmy user. And I dont think that I have seen much misinformation on the popular hexbear communities and even then it was mostly just framing of real facts.

[-] a1_15@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

if you actually believe what you've just commented, I don't think we can have a sensible argument here. but for anyone out there reading this: no, they're nothing like the "average lemmy user", and they don't "frame real facts" lmao. they post Nazi ideology openly, trying to frame people like Hitler, Xi Jin Ping, Putin in a positive light... They literally posted propoganda on how the Tiananmen Square Massacre isn't real. that instance is nothing short of deranged and straight up nonsense

[-] Lileath@lemmy.blahaj.zone -2 points 1 year ago

They fucking hate Hitler and fascists and dont see todays russia in a good light. I would agree that hexbear is an echochamber about china but the same is true with reddit or other such sites, only in the other direction, where every single action of china gets seen as something they do because they are evil.

And even then hexbear advocates for left unity, which I can understand although I still dont like left wing authoritarians that much more than right wing auths. But that means that there are some "tankies" on it that do have positive views on the UdSSR and the PRC. And would you want to defederate from pro USA instances as well? Because I cant really see many qualitative differences between the atrocities done by the USA and the PRC.

[-] dangblingus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

They talk openly about supporting Putin's actions in Ukraine. They push the denazification lie. If they want left unity, they need to drop the garbage tankie ideology and actually start discussing worker's rights and social programs.
