Damn so 196 is where all the Expanse fans are?! Because they're certainly not on tumblr and I don't wanna go back to ~~reddit~~ just for some Expanse memes

I watched the first couple episodes and stopped because everyone was just so much more annoying than they were in the books.

[–] Kyle_The_G@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

I've heard the books are good too i've been meaning to read them

Oye... Beltalowda This.. Is your captain This.. is your ship. This.. is your moment. You may think that you are scared....But you are not. That.. is your sharpness. That’s your power. (thump) We are.. Belters. (thump} Nothing in the world.. is foreign to us. (more thumping) The place we go.... is the place we belong. (everyone thumping) This is no different. (continued thumping) No one..... has more right to this. None more prepared. (continued thumping) Inulada go through the ring..... Call it their own. (continued thumping) But a Belter opened it. (continued thumping) We.. are.. THE BELT. We are strong. (continued thumping) We are SHARP and we don’t feel.. FEAR. (continued thumping) This moment belong to us. My thought process when I see any space ship outside of The Expanse:

"That's wrong. Everyone would die. How does it even move? The engines shouldn't be there, you can't just replace the propellers with rockets and call it a day. Lazy writing. The thrust vectors are all wrong. Hallway? More like holeway..."

It's ruined everything lol.

I would buy ANY political stance Drummer is selling.

Can we first take some of their monies and make the last 3 seasons?

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I'm having a hard time finishing the last 3 books, being 30 years after the first 6. Never finished the show, did they finish up the show with the first 6 books at least? The show from what I have watched is really good.

[–] dorron@lemmy.world 9 points 7 months ago (3 children)

They're worth sticking with just to see the end of everyone's arc - memories legion is also great at filling some gaps all over the series

The show unfortunately drops off a cliff before laconia gets started - doesn't end in a bad spot, pre time skip, but the shite with Cas Anvar means they'd have to remake the whole last season to resurrect it

Whiled I loved Cas's character, they removed him for the right reason, I wish he didn't behave like he does because his loss on the show really fucking sucked.

[–] Marin_Rider@aussie.zone 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I really need to retry the last book. I was so into the series but the time jump really took me out of it and I just lost interest at some point in the last book. seems dumb not to finish it but it really lost a lot of what I liked about the earlier books. hard to explain

[–] KyuubiNoKitsune@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

So I am bad at reading or listening to audio books, but I read the overarching storyline, aren't the last 3 really interesting? There's so much that happens in them by the sounds of it.

[–] Marin_Rider@aussie.zone 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

its not that they aren't interesting, I guess the tone shift was harder for me to get over. that and the story going on after the death of one of the key characters who I won't name was hard too

[–] KyuubiNoKitsune@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Man, I really need to listen to the books I think. I love the story too much not to.

[–] dorron@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

The story is great regardless, but there is a definate shift between the hyper realism I fell in love with in the early books, vs the protomolecule Sci fi of the later books - it was all necessary to close the story and the funky Miller chapters were some of the best, but there was defo the sense of getting to the ending for the ending's sake

If there was ever another shot at completing the series I'd be first in line, but in its current state I can't recommend watching beyond season 5

The side characters really did shine in the early tv seasons though - cara gee as a meld of drummer/pa was fantastic, the belter creole was iconic. Wes as Amos was perfect, Cas as Alex was (initially) great, Dominique as naiomi switching between belter creole/common was awesome - it was a shame the series suffered cause Cas was a pig, but I can't blame Amazon for covering their ass

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

Welp time to dig them out and get to it lol

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 24 points 7 months ago (4 children)

what does it mean to space somebody? eject them from a spaceship? I'm onboard with that (not literally). Despite the rocket fuel needed it would probably net negative emissions.

[–] Coasting0942@reddthat.com 44 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

The secret is magically efficient fusion engines.

It’s from the series The Expanse

But yes, space as a verb means to eject from airlock, sometimes explosively and sometimes not

[–] PsychedSy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 7 months ago

Prince Andrew is furiously investing in this as we speak.

[–] SchmidtGenetics@lemmy.world 12 points 7 months ago

This is for when you’re already in space, just shove them out an airlock.

"Space(d) Billionaires" would be a great sci-fi series to binge watch.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 3 points 7 months ago

Meh, probably too soapy for me.

A very real reality show or a contest? I'd love it!

[–] CassowaryTom@lemmy.one 7 points 7 months ago

Oh shit. I'm a native English speaker and I had to read this 3 times to understand. I might be just a little too fucked up right now.

[–] LazaroFilm@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Space space billionaires (verb adj noun)

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 2 points 7 months ago

Don't be a billionairist, treat every one equally.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 1 points 7 months ago

The second one seems more like Space Billionaires in June.
