General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng implemented an anti-corruption campaign in 2016 called "blazing furnace" in shorthand. Since then, the fire has ripped through both politicians and businesses, up to even the Presidency. Nearly 200,000 party members, 36 Central Committee members, and 50 police/military generals have been disciplined since the initiative began. In 2018, Dinh La Thang, the former party chief of Ho Chi Minh City, became the first sitting Politburo member to be criminally charged, and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. In 2023, President Nguyễn Xuân Phúc was implicated in a corruption scandal and resigned. He was replaced by Võ Văn Thưởng, who was then also caught in a corruption scandal a year later in March 2024, making him the shortest serving President in Vietnamese history. The Presidency is current headed by Võ Thị Ánh Xuân while they find a new President; she also took that role in 2023.

The ousted leaders tend to also be part of the more West-friendly, technocratic faction inside Vietnam, either reflecting how these people also tend to be more easily corrupted, or how the Communist Party is slowly moving away from a foreign policy which allies itself with the West (as Vietnam has comprehensive strategic partnerships with several Western countries), or some combination. Of course, this shouldn't be overstated - Vietnam has maintained a close friendship with China for years, and both incumbent leaders are intimately familiar with anti-corruption campaigns and how and why they must be conducted in order to deliver maximum public benefit.

America clearly desires Vietnam to pick their side, because America strongly desires another vassal state in East Asia like the Philippines, South Korea, and Japan to further encircle and isolate China. And so the headlines and commentary of Western state propaganda like Radio Free Asia, the BBC, WaPo, Business Insider, etc reveal their increasing annoyance with Vietnam's government. They often couch this in the standard "objective" economics language); about how removing leaders who foreign investors were reassured by might mean economic pain for Vietnam ahead. As Bhadrakumar noted in 2023, perhaps the BBC revealed their intentions the best:

Reading Vietnamese politics is always difficult — the Communist Party makes its decisions behind closed doors. But hard-line General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who was given an unprecedented third term at last year’s party congress, appears to be consolidating his authority by ousting senior officials seen as more pro-Western and pro-business. Officially this is all happening in the name of fighting corruption,.. but it’s indicative of a power struggle at the top of the party… the likely rise now of more security-focused officials to the top of the party will be bad news.

Even a quick google search right now will show a bunch of articles by clearly nervous Westerners: Why Vietnam’s Escalating Anti-Corruption Campaign Might Backfire because, as we all know, only authoritarian regimes are vulnerable to things like public opinion and discontent, while Western "democracies" are insulated from such petty phenomena. Leaders here can have disapproval ratings of 60-70% and not even the slightest consequence will happen to them - a real sign of democratic freedom and justice over those primitive regimes in the East! Or, take: ‘Blazing Furnace’ Turns Vietnam Into Another Chinese Province; China turning both Russia and Vietnam into their provinces in just two years was a real diplomatic masterclass. Or, back in 2022: Vietnam's 'blazing furnace' crackdown burns $40 bln off stocks. Not the stocks! Anything but the stocks!

If your actions as a leader are pissing off Bloomberg, you are going in the right direction.

Fico’s assassination attempt fucking sucks man. The one good political change in Europe in the last 5 years and he just gets shot by some old reactionary fuck. Fico and his party was the only example in Europe of an anti-NATO leftist group. If Fico dies then all that’s left is fucking Orban. Grim

In the so-called "communist party" of the U.S' 32nd National Convention, they've published a list of the preliminary resolutions that'll be voted for in their convention.

In general it fucking sucks like always, stuffed with too much fluff and hot air and barely any actual substance, and generally points in the direction that they'll take the Joe Biden direction of "Nothing will fundamentally change" with regards to their incoherency, disunity, and fundamental rightist status quo. of course I'm more here to point out the funny stuff that I always love to point out any chance I get, and that's the fact that CPUSA can not help itself in being the tail that's pinned to the donkey. AKA they want to enshrine into their party, again, that all good communists must vote blue no matter who to defeat Trump and fascism at the ballot box!

Section 5. The 2024 elections

WHEREAS the 2024 elections, at the federal, state, and local levels, represent a pivotal juncture, a moment of crisis. The crisis we face features the threat of fascism, bellicose militarism, brutal racism, military assaults on immigrant workers, anti-human attacks on women, people of color, and LGBTQ people, and an unrelenting war on workers, and especially their unions. The crisis also includes existential attacks on our environment and smashing democratic structures, including the right to vote.

anakin-padme-1 speech-l

From the unified democrat-republican capitalist government, right? anakin-padme-2

anakin-padme-3

Right? anakin-padme-4

WHEREAS the MAGA forces have put forward a dangerous fascist agenda outlined in their 2025 Project that seeks to cut support for public institutions, Social Security, SNAP, public education, healthcare, union rights, and democratic and civil rights. Defeating Trump alone is not enough. We must defend the Constitution and defeat MAGA candidates at all levels in the 2024 election.

peppino-scream AND HOW ARE YOU GOING TO ACCOMPLISH THAT?

WHEREAS the recent upsurge in labor militancy and the people’s movement has mobilized hundreds of thousands of people into action, resulting in significant victories such as union organizing drives, historic wins for labor by the UAW, Teamsters, SAG-AFTRA, the election of a progressive mayor in Chicago and Los Angeles, and the victory in Ohio to enshrine the right to reproductive healthcare into the state constitution. These, and many other recent examples, show that when we organize and fight back, we can win.

CPUSA: smuglord By "We" we of course mean to include ourselves in the accomplishments of other people whom we had nothing to do with.

WHEREAS growing working-class militancy and unity is decisive to defeat Trump, MAGA, and the extreme right at the ballot box in 2024. The Communist Party USA is part of, in the thick of, this deepening struggle. Communists are independent but in the mix of this exploding anti-extreme-right coalition.

"independent" lenin-dont-laugh

WHEREAS the corporate/financial extreme right and the extreme-right coalition have a strategy to disrupt, demoralize, and splinter the growing unity in the anti-fascist and people’s movement. Principled unity in action is an asset Communists bring to the table. Communists and our friends have a strategic role in building and maintaining unity within the anti-extreme-right coalition.

Here's a fun question. Who is the military-industrial complex siding with? lets take a look at which campaigns are the fine people of Lockheed Martin are pouring all their blood money into.

hahaha BOTH SIDES!

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that to defend the working class, people’s movement, and democracy, the Communist Party issues this urgent call to action to build a broad People’s Needs, Not MAGA Greed Campaign, an all-people’s front to win victory. We must go all out to support the all-people’s front for a maximum voter turnout on the critical issues affecting our lives.

Interesting wording here. They don't want to actually build anything, but are calling on someone else to actually put in the work of building an "all-people's front". Not even mentioning that they want this "all-people's front" to be explicitly used to vote the-democrat. I think they're saying they want ACORN back but maybe without all the sexpestry.

THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Communist Party is committed to year-round organizing and mobilizing on the issues facing the working class, to build a broad-based grassroots movement on its behalf, and will encourage our members to work in their local communities with labor and other forces in targeted voter registration, education, and mobilization efforts, in support of the issues to help elect communist and progressive candidates, support voting rights for immigrants, and support progressive ballot initiatives. We call on our members to work on neighborhood-based canvassing and to get out the vote with labor and allies for the strongest pro-worker and progressive candidates at every level.

CPUSA has literally ran only one person back in 2022 since they were liquidated after the death of Gus Hall. This is also to include the fact that People's World, the mouthpiece of the party, has repeatedly condemned any progressive candidate that doesn't run with a blue D next to their name as fascist enablers and electoral spoilers. The only candidates they want people to vote for is whatever bog creature the DNC swamp coughs up.

THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a victory over rightwing candidates will be a decisive defeat for the corporate rightwing and fascist forces. This will help change the balance of forces and clear the way to change the direction of our nation–to slash the military budget, end the sending of weapons to Israel, tax the rich, win quality healthcare for all, strengthen the right to vote, strengthen union organizing rights, restore Roe v. Wade, and end police murder of unarmed people of color.

What the fuck was the 2020 election then? Where's the military budget slashing, the end of weapon shipments to Israel, taxes on the rich, universal healthcare, stronger voting rights, stronger labor rights, womens reproductive rights, and the cop fucking that we were supposed to see since 2020? How the fuck is any of that supposed to happen in 2024-48 when all of those were weakened steadily over 2020-24?

Fucking Liberals.

THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Communists will give full united support and participation in the broad front to defeat Trump, Trumpism, and the MAGA Republicans.

CPUSA party line is yet again officially going to be "Vote Blue No Matter Who!"

Submitted by the Political Action Commission, Communist Party USA

Ukrainian President Signs Law to Send Prisoners to Front Lines

The authorities will also impose tougher sanctions against men who do not fulfill their obligations with the Army.

On Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the law approved on May 8 by Parliament that allows certain categories of prisoners to sign contracts with the Army.

With the approval of this law, Ukraine seeks to increase the number of soldiers in its ranks to reduce the gap in personnel that separates its army from the Russian Armed Forces.

The regulations allow prisoners who wish to shorten their sentences if they sign a contract to enlist in the Ukrainian Army. Prisoners convicted of rape, double murder, political corruption or crimes against national security cannot benefit from this measure.

Ukraine is seeking to recruit more soldiers with several legislative initiatives, including a new mobilization law that will come into force on next Saturday.

The authorities also plan to impose tougher sanctions against men of military age who do not fulfill their obligations with the Army.

Previously, on Wednesday, visiting U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that his country will provide an additional US$2 billion in military aid for Ukraine.

The funding will be directed toward providing weapons for Ukraine in the near future. It wil also be used for purchasing weapons and investing in Ukraine's military-industrial sector.

Last month, the U.S. approved a long-delayed support package for Ukraine worth about US$61 billion. The package includes US$49.9 billion for military assistance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZHZWie7OHc Taiwan parliament brawl.

Taiwan’s parliament descended into a brawl on Friday just days before the inauguration of Lai Ching-te, the new president.

Politicians pushed, hit and tackled each other, clambering across tables as they swarmed around the speaker’s seat in the legislative chamber after tempers became heated in a bitter dispute about parliamentary reforms.

The argument broke out over a push by the main opposition party, the Kuomintang (KMT), and its allies, to give parliament greater powers of scrutiny over the government.

This includes a controversial move to criminalise officials who are deemed to make false statements in parliament – a proposal which has been rejected by Mr Lai’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as “an unconstitutional abuse of power”.

The unruly scenes are likely to add to speculation that Mr Lai will face a tougher challenge than President Tsai Ing-wen, his predecessor, in gaining support for his legislative policies after he takes office.

Article in which the author accuses Biden of withholding information about Hamas leaders because he supports Hamas and wants a Palestine ruled by factions backed by Iran and the US

https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/sinwar-exchange-rafah-biden-gaza

Israel’s plans for the “Day After” are clearly irrelevant, since Biden and his aides have formulated their own scenario: Hamas “technocrats”—i.e., the leadership in Doha—will constitute the Iranian-backed component in a Palestinian unity government in tandem with the U.S.-backed faction that now rules the West Bank, Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority.

If Israel finishes off Hamas, the Biden administration’s efforts to complete Obama’s Middle East security architecture will collapse. From that perspective, Team Biden prefers to sacrifice Sinwar and save Obama’s most important strategic initiative, which aims to override the traditional U.S.-led order of the Middle East and give birth to a new and unholy anatomy, tying America to an anti-American terror-state that embodies Jew hatred.

From The Red Stream (@theredstream) on Telegram:

Tens of thousands of people in the French overseas territory of New Caledonia have taken to the streets in protest of French President Emmanuel Macron’s plans to reform New Caledonia’s electoral system. At least eight pro-independence activists had already been arrested before being released under pressure from protesters.

The latest wave of protests comes as the French National Assembly in Paris again gave a green light for the proposed constitutional changes, which native pro-independence parties fear will significantly affect their representation.

Last week, the National Assembly law committee debated the proposed constitutional amendment’s value. The bill should be debated again today, with a vote scheduled for May 14.

This move would allow an additional 11,000 mostly non-Indigenous people to determine the future of the French overseas territory, where voices favoring independence have grown.

My understanding of the situation is that there is a large, indigenous-led, and somewhat leftist movement for independence on New Caledonia. In order to avoid further erosion of the French colonial empire, Macron is pushing for an expansion of the franchise to people who have only recently moved to New Caledonia (i.e. non-indigenous) who presumably are less supportive of independence.

Does anyone have a clear idea on how the populations of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, et all are pressuring their governments to do something? I know there is basically no freedom of expression or political activism in most MENA countries, but that's why I'm asking. Even if their leaders have gone full sellout to US / Zionist interests, the people definitely haven't. Erdoğan is a slimy fuck, but he's at least nominally answerable to the electorate. The Moroccan, Algerian, Jordanian etc leaders aren't. So are any of these populations trying to influence their governments? Protests? Disruptions? Some group of soldiers looking to depose Sisi? Are the authorities in all of these countries strong enough to just officially shrug their shoulders about the situation and clobber anyone who tries to speak up?

Ship grounded

A U.S. Navy ship participating in a military exercise in the Gulf of Guinea ran aground this week as it was leaving a port in West Africa.

The expeditionary sea base USS Hershel “Woody” Williams got stuck around 1 p.m. Thursday, shortly after leaving Libreville, Gabon, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa said Friday in a statement.

The ship broke free at about 5 p.m. Thursday at high tide, said Lt. Cmdr. Jason Tross, a spokesman for NAVEUR-AF.

I forget the twitter name, but I’ve been reading some analysis from a Vietnamese account. They gave some insights into the country’s dealings with Israel, primarily how Vietnam buys weapons from them because they’re one of the few countries that are willing to transfer technology to them, i.e. allows Vietnam to produce and modify the weapons domestically. They didn’t give too many details on how licensing worked or whether Israel receives any money from weapons modified by Vietnam, but the goal was self sufficiency which of course can’t happen if you’re reliant on westerners to give everything to you forever. And also how they’ve banned pro-Israeli content from the media lol.

The China-Russia statement in a nutshell:

  • The rise of multipolarity, in particular the strengthening of developing countries, is a process that is objectively occurring. Some countries are trying to fight this trend with hegemonism, masquerading their harmful politics under the guise of a "rules-based order". Russia and China want to use bilateral relations to build a more democratic world order.
  • No country should gain security at the expense of another country's security.
  • There are two fundamental principles that should be upheld. First, there should be no neo-colonialism nor hegemonism; countries should be able to freely pick whatever political, social, and economic systems they desire without pressure from outside, especially not sanctions. Second, the UN Charter should be the backbone of a multipolar world order.
  • Countries which are trying to exert hegemonism, provoking regional tensions, etc - that is, the United States - are bad, and are using a Cold War model for modern times. This endangers the security of everybody.
  • The United States is trying to exert military dominance everywhere via missile defense systems, various missile programs, military bases, submarine deals, etc. This is bad.
  • The United States is trying to contain both Russia and China in particular using the aforementioned tactics. This is very destabilizing and bad.
  • The United States should not use biological nor weapons in outer space to further exert military dominance. Those things should be off-limits to any country.
  • The United States is provoking the DPRK and trying to cause a new war on the Korean Peninsula. The United States should take responsibility for Afghanistan and help them, rather than sanction them.

Then there's all the cooperation stuff between Russia and China:

  • Deepening military cooperation, including joint air and naval patrols.
  • More bilateral trade and investments, including in shipbuilding, civilian aviation, cars, equipment manufacturing, electronics, metallurgy, mining, etc.
  • Deepening energy cooperation, including in nuclear energy, with the wider goal of keeping international energy stable.
  • Further usage of local currencies in bilateral trade, more banks and institutions in that regard, etc.
  • Education and scientific cooperation, study abroad programs, the teaching of each others' languages, etc.
  • Cooperation in mass media, basically just doing journalism better and at higher quality.
  • Cooperation inside various international organizations like the UN, World Health Organization, World Trade Organization, the SCO, BRICS, etc.

Okay so apparently the Fico shooter is actually a huge nazi (with big scary ties to Russia), in one of his books intro he's crying about the "hundreds of thousands of gypsies who are a parasite on our social system", etc. etc.

Probably simply didn't like Fico (who is kind of a succdem but from his pov a scary communist) and decided to off him.

Okay so since there's a bit of confusion about this: The stuff that he's a liberal is made up, probably by gov sponsored media so they can smear the lib opposition, hungarian state media is blaring the same shit like that he was doing this because Fico wanted to subvert state media or some shit. the progressive liberals (aka liberals, the opposition) already said he was never a member.

Here's the book i was talking about: https://www.databazeknih.cz/knihy/efata-318489 put it in deepl.

Edit: There's apparently a video about him talking about how he wanted to off Fico for tampering with state media, i'm taking that with a grain of salt for now.

Edit 2: This is apparently him on a fash "migrant hunter" militia's memorial service for Jozef Tiso, the leader of the nazi regime during ww2 in slovakia.
