The Pressed Steel Car Strike of 1909 was an American labor dispute which ran from July to September in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The strike was triggered on July 10th, a payday on which many workers were shorted by the Pressed Steel Car Company.

The strike began on July 13th, and grew to include more than 8,000 workers, 3,000 of whom were also from the Standard Steel Car Company. By the next day, 500 cops began working to protect strikebreakers and evict strikers from company houses. The New York Times called the immigrant workforce "savages" and "illiterate foreigners".

Management refused to speak with the workers' representatives and James Rider, manager of the Pressed Steel Car Company, responded to their strike by hiring Pearl Bergoff, a notorious owner of a strike-breaking paramilitary force.

The workers were joined by members of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), including founders William Trautmann and "Big Bill" Haywood, as well as "Smiling Joe" Ettor.

The walkout drew national attention when, on this day in 1909, a bloody battle took place between strikers, private security agents, and the Pennsylvania State Police. The violence began after strikers boarded a trolley to search for scabs and they were confronted by an armed deputy, who opened fire. In the fighting that followed, between 12 and 26 people were killed.

The strike was settled on September 8th when Pressed Steel Car agreed to a wage increase, the posting of wage rates, and ended abuses in company housing practices. This labor dispute would be a precursor to the Great Steel Strike of 1919.

Find someone who loves you like white people love guitars

When a woman talks about her girlfriends I just assume she's gay and in a polycule and I'm happy for her, like a normal person.

CW: poly drama.

spoilerI am having a pregnancy scare with a short term partner. I am not sure how to handle this in the best case scenario and this all is less than ideal. We have been talking and she was into poly for fun, and now that it is for real she is not as into the poly idea. So, I didn't do enough homework on several levels. I am thinking about the future and it is difficult with just how wildly few people in my life I am able to talk to about such a major situation. Not to be a communist about stuff but I think monogamy was invented to enforce the patriarchy and it is upheld to reinforce white supremacy. I know we poly people are supposed to say that if you are monogamous it's fine for you. However it isn't. That is just residual liberalism in the blood. The same way sharing the means of production is good, sharing the resources of your life and loving eachother is good. I get that I am super weird for feeling this way, but the math is clear.

Fedex driver today backed his truck up our driveway and hit a section of our roof. It's a literal dent in the gutter, but my dad is on the phone screaming at the company to pay for it and the cops came by and took pictures. fml

In news no one but me cares about : Adult Animation!

I last spoke about the Futurama reboot. The first episode was awful in many ways. The second was actually pretty funny but it just felt very cheaply made and from there it feels like the budget has gone up with the comedy still middling. The highlight so far is the Bitcoin episode for actually being a lot better than I thought it was going to be! That being said, it's still had some issues with cheap animation and jokes that fell flat for me. None of these supposed heartfelt episodes have really hit their mark because of poorly planned out narrative and distractingly bad animation. Just an aside, but it seems like billy west can't quite to the fry voice anymore. It's kinda funny because Fry is starting to sound like lars.

But that's Disney, on the Warner Brothers side, I have been watching the new season of Harley Quinn. I was a little worried with the showrunner change that the show would drop drastically in quality for season 4, but while it might not be reaching season 1 heights, it's still very solid. Speaking of DC, I also started Doom patrol and that's been pretty good but I'm only halfway through season 1.

If you're still reading, I hope youve enjoyed by drivel, and I thought I would mention that I finally got a chance to watch alita: Battle Angel, and apart from some jarring scene transitions I thought that it was really good. I was very impressed with the CG especially.

Mods are STEMlord-brained morons who soyface at tech buzzwords still despite being communists as far as I know. Users think they're all Nick Mullen when they're all Adams except maybe 4 Stavs. The actually cool people on this site are all probably ossifying ourselves into cocoons of eternal slumber to sink away from this wretched world, realizing how we can't counter the wokelib mind virus: COVID.

Went to the gym for the first time in a month (had been picking up an extra day of work sing we were short staffed) and thought I had escaped without feeling soreness, but it's starting to hit me now. Not as bad as I thought it would be though. I did end up walking home for about 4 miles at least 3 days a week and cycling for another two.

I think its a funny bit to develop a mortal grudge against some aspect of a country that is frequently praised, like Italian food.

It shouldn't be a thing that people already make fun of cause kicking a dead horse is not that funny, it should be a thing thats almost unanimously agreed upon as fact.

justice league (the cartoon show) having cops deciding to shoot & fire an RPG???? at a random liquid-man literally asking for help who just got hit by a car is a hyperreal depiction of modern cops lmao
