A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

Some folk are having difficulty figuring out that there aren't any good guys here. We have (in no particular order):

Hamas, who are killing and raping innocent civilians, maintaining military rule, and generally being some of the most prominent examples of why theocracy is bad.

Israel, who's doing a genocide and helped ensure Hamas was in power because Hamas is fucking evil and thus easy to hate.

The US who is supplying the former, and thus making things easier for them. Simultaneously, Biden appears to be trying to get a bunch of countries to form a peacekeeping force, but frankly I'm not giving him points for that. (Ofc, this does not mean you shouldn't vote for him. Trump is worse.)

A large ammount of civilians who are being pushed by the first two into making each other victims and being brainwashed into thinking that one or the other is good.

The closest we have to a good guy in this scenario is fucking Egypt who's participating in a scheme to maintain a peacekeeping force. And as far as I remember not doing anything shady that's relevant. Reminder that this is the country that periodically comes out with a magical AIDS-curing laser.

In 1000 years you'd have Israel/Hamas all over again, but it would be Cabelas/BassPro

[–] holycrap@lemm.ee 18 points 6 months ago

Cabelas is owned by bass pro so... that's a good analogy actually.

You forgot that Hamas is run by people who spend most of their time living extravagantly in their sugar daddy countries.

There was actually news that an Egyptian spy manipulated the peace process. His task was to talk with Israel and Hamas regarding a ceasefire. He manipulated the Hamas offer – which Israel accepted – without talking to Hamas with the goal to make Israel back off from the agreement.

So far no one knows why he did that. If he was Putin's puppet or if it was orders from Egypt. But it shines a bad light onto Egypt's role.

[–] Leate_Wonceslace@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I can't think of a single motivation for doing that.

[–] GenEcon@lemm.ee 11 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Putin loves chaos and dissent in Europe. Everything that escalates the situation in Israel and Palestine is good for him.

Yeah, that tracks.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The good guys are the innocent victims on both sides. However, since one side has considerably more power than the other, the amount of victims they can rack up is far higher.

That doesn't really fit my platonic ideal of "good guy" but it's a decent characterization nonetheless.

If only they had the power to bonk, instead of just to threaten bonks

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 6 months ago

They can curb Netanyahu's capacity to travel, and pressure Israel to vote him out of office, or be thought of as Bibi's little collective bitch.

Similarly, George W. Bush and his administration can't leave the US for fear of arrest. Despite the Storm the Hague law, the US won't be storming the Hague even if ex-presidents stand trial by internal tribubal.

That's pumping up Hamas a considerable amount. Maybe one of those auto dealer inflatable gorillas, but not King Kong.

[–] CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social 35 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I mean, in an actual fight, that one movie notwithstanding, King Kong shouldnt exactly be an equivalent to Godzilla, he managed to get himself killed by being shot up by some aircraft mounted guns and falling off a building, while Godzilla can tank a nuke and fire radioactive plasma from his mouth

And lay a ton of self-fertilized eggs, all at the same time. There are only two genders, but she can switch as needed.

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

My understanding is Hamas was supplied by Iran to start some trouble in Gaza to provoke Israel into a brutal retaliation, since Netanyahu was already known to be itching for an excuse to go all genocide (as confirmed by the IDF using cluster bombs in excess and blockbusters in civilian-occupied urban areas).

Hamas, emboldened with its new materiel, went hard and Netanyahu was gleeful for the opportunity to massacre more Palestinians, even resort to contrived famine to do it.

All while smart phones on the ground recorded the carnage up close and personal, which leaked to the internet for all to see.

So Hamas is not a military giant, but they played their part with aplomb

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 months ago

Shit even Iran would have a tough time being King Kong now that I think about it.

Frame 3: the US Government enters the frame to the right, swinging a bat labelled Hague Invasion Act

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Frame 4 EU Lady steps up with the shield and the US finds out Europe isn't toothless.

[–] bitfucker@programming.dev 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

It would be funny if that happens since the EU is having problems with Russia too. Will Russia help the EU (by proving that America is not as powerful as they'd like to think) or take advantage of the situation I wonder.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

Oh my, Baltic Czech Republic is right there...

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 20 points 6 months ago

I can't help it, seeing Godzilla and King Kong reminds me too much of an old Japanese movie where Godzilla and King Kong were fighting, and Godzilla breathes fire on King Kong. Kong doesn't like that so he reaches down and pulls up a tree and stuffs it root ball first down Godzilla's throat to stop the fire. Funniest thing I've ever seen in my life.

[–] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 6 months ago

While it's cool I doubt it'll do much

They are doing everything they were created to do!

[–] mozz@mbin.grits.dev 14 points 6 months ago

There's many a slip twixt "I am applying for a warrant" and any real consequences or end to the killing

I mean it's a good start and the fact that Israel and the US are freaking out about it so much is a pretty strong sign that it's on the right track, but it's still just a start so far

Are they standing on an aircraft carrier? It could only be Kuznetsov, no other carrier is so stable under the weight of all that monster.

[–] nuke@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 months ago

All I see is smoke and fire, so yeah it's the Kuznetsov confirmed
