COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio’s Republican Gov. Mike DeWine said Thursday that he is calling a rare special session of the General Assembly next week to pass legislation ensuring that President Joe Biden is on the state’s 2024 ballot.

The special session was called for Tuesday.

“Ohio is running out of time to get Joe Biden, the sitting President of the United States, on the ballot this fall. Failing to do so is simply unacceptable. This is ridiculous. This is (an) absurd situation,” DeWine said.

That is shockingly reasonable from that governor. Suspiciously reasonable.

I forget where I read it but I think they’re pushing a republican rider with it to “outlaw foreign election money” or something. Which is funny since the biggest election interference I’ve seen was a “newspaper” I got last year, filled with disinfo and sent from Illinois. Probably from the Illinois republican billionaire that spent a boat load of money fighting weed/abortion in a state he doesn’t have any business being in.

Trump is going to run into the same problem I believe, they're passing through both of them

What do you mean? Clearly the FAR LEFT EXTREMISTS are trying to RIG the ELECTION.

The bill he's going to push is filled with bullshit and will cripple the public's ability to use ballot initiatives, like they recently did to secure abortion rights for the state and are currently trying to use for correcting Republican gerrymandering.

Biden will get on the ballot and it will cost the Ohio voters their most significant power to affect change.

Not worth it. Biden isn't going to win Ohio anyway. No dem will win Ohio for thirty years. That state only rivals Florida in what a disaster it's become in the last ten years.

So. While this law is relatively new (more than a decade old iirc,) it has required waivers in previous elections already, from both parties. Maybe next time the parties should actually take deadlines like this into consideration when planning their conventions? The deadline is August 7th, so it's not some implausibly early date, as the Democratic convention is only scheduled like two weeks later. And the deadline hasn't been a surprise.

I agree they should get a waiver but damn, seems a bit incompetent.

You've got it backwards. While there's several reasons why the conventions shouldn't be held earlier (such as the possibility of tight primaries and the fact that campaigns need a lot of time to prepare), there's absolutely no reason why a completely arbitrary deadline can't be changed.
