Huh, apparently I can do about stage 2.5 but it makes the inside of my nose hurt. I wish I didn't know this about myself

Edit: I now also have a massive headache. 0/10 experience

What else can that tongue do?👀

[–] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.ml 16 points 6 months ago

I'm decent at harmonica, mimicking bird calls, and getting all the batter off mixer attachments. I'm struggling with pronouncing Swedish "ö" though

To what end yoga? To what end...

[–] riot@lemmy.world 43 points 6 months ago

I was curious too, so I went to the Wikipedia page:

The goal is to attain liberation in the body, by sealing in the energy of bindu in the head so that it is not lost.

Haṭha yoga is a branch of the largely spiritual practice of yoga, though it makes use of physical techniques; it was developed in medieval times, much later than the meditative and devotional forms of yoga. Its goals however are similar: siddhis or magical powers, and mukti, liberation. In Haṭha yoga, liberation was often supposed to be attainable in the body, made immortal through the practices of Haṭha yoga. Among its techniques were mudrās, meant to seal in or control energies such as kundalini and bindu. Khecarī mudrā is one such technique.

tl;dr - A spiritual practice of yoga in Hindu metaphysics.

That was my first thought exaclty.
"Why though?"

[–] peto@lemm.ee 20 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Ever wanted to pick your nose while meditating?

[–] arandomthought@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I do, but with my fingers. And "mindfully".

I'm guessing you could blow some wicked tuneful raspberries

In stereo too

A bit like breaking your arm and dislocating your shoulders so you can finally lick your elbow.

[–] MeDuViNoX@sh.itjust.works 22 points 6 months ago

I guess I was just lucky in that I was born with a boneless tongue. /s 🙃

Do you ask why when someone builds a castle in Minecraft?

Edit not criticizing you, just making a joke 😅

My brother in Buddha… how about we don’t do that.

It certainly would be a dumb way to die. Thankfully, I've never experienced anything close to choking on my own tongue.

I know the song/meme, but that makes me wonder, what would you consider to be the smartest way to die?

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 41 points 6 months ago (3 children)

Would it be possible to stretch a different organ to reach a different cavity?

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 21 points 6 months ago (1 children)

for some, yes. for you, no.

They call it jelking and it doesn't seem to work from what I've seen online.

I can do that!

To a degree at least, just got gratually better over the last few years without deliberate stretching or severing anything. Altho I mostly use it to get slime out of my throat instead of caughing. Now just tried it to get up to my nose, nothing there at the moment.

I guess I am almost at the "third stage" distance wise.

It helps to exhale quickly to get the meatflap out ontop of the thongue. (Second picture)

I've did research if one could choke on their own thongue several times, because I was worried that it would "fall down there" or get stuck or sth, like a dislocated jaw or a scrotum torsion or sth.

[–] MeDuViNoX@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 months ago

I did it gradually as well, I've never had problems with choking on my own tongue.

I haven't had a frenulum since infancy (believe it or not, from a near fatal teething incident) and have always been able to do this. I used to frak people out by making my tongue disappear while I was a kid.

[–] aStonedSanta@lemm.ee 22 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Okay so like. Wtf does it feel like. And does it make you sneeze like crazy?

[–] MeDuViNoX@sh.itjust.works 18 points 6 months ago

It doesn't make me sneeze and it's not uncomfortable unless you recently ate spicy or acidic food.

[–] Norbas@lemmy.world 25 points 6 months ago (2 children)

omg i can actually do this also guys don't do it, your nose needs the mucus, if you lick it all off from inside it starts to hurt

this is probably delightful if you ever get a flu or cold

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 44 points 6 months ago (3 children)

Seems more like a delightful new way to give yourself sinus infections.

[–] ace_garp@lemmy.world 27 points 6 months ago

Or auto-asphyxiation.

[–] MeDuViNoX@sh.itjust.works 13 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I've never given myself a sinus infection in the 10 years I've been doing this, but others might?

I naturally produce more mucus than most people anyway. I'm not really sure, maybe it's minor dust allergies? It generally makes things easier for me to manage.

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 7 points 6 months ago

Absolutely. On the flipside: you can now scratch itches you didn't even know you had.

[–] arisunz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 6 months ago (1 children)

wait hold tf up you can STRETCH your tongue???

[–] Daxtron2@startrek.website 8 points 6 months ago

Its a muscle like any other

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 21 points 6 months ago (3 children)

Surley your time would be better spent practicing self fellatio until you are 10/10 at it ?

Now, I am l assuming here that you're a dude because... well...

My legs feel weak from just seeing the diagrams

[–] MicrondeMMMMMMM@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Wait some people can't do all of them?

I can't pass the first stage

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 10 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Keep practicing until you can work your tongue all the way up and out the nostrils.

[–] MeDuViNoX@sh.itjust.works 11 points 6 months ago

I've seen people in videos online that could do it. I'm not there yet and I'm not sure I ever will or really want to be. It'd be a neat party trick if I could.

Imagine if someone with a bifurcated tongue did it and had one coming out of each nostril.

Modern phonetic transcription stands no match for the ultra-nasal

[–] Holzkohlen@feddit.de 7 points 6 months ago (4 children)

Wait, but did you sever your "frenulum of the tongue" for that? I just tried and that is what's preventing me from doing it.

Question, would this make being sick and congested better? Could you keep your nose clean of the stuff you can't blow out normally? Or is that a closed sinus issue

[–] DrDominate@lemmy.world 11 points 6 months ago

I'm utterly disgusted and curious
