China is on an insane powertrip about Taiwan, and quite frankly they can go fuck themselves IMO.
Taiwan is an independent nation, we don't have to respect China in any way in that regard. If they agree to become one nation again that's their decision, but Chinese threats of military invasion and takeover are immoral, and we should NOT accept the "One China" policy in any way that threatens Taiwans right to self determination.
What if texas wants to be independent nation too? Isnt it their right?
not defending China, am 100% with you. Just wondering
That's kind of the opposite, Taiwan is a de facto independent nation, Texas is not. Texas is a state in a federation it joined voluntarily, that prohibits secession. Still if they can politically negotiate independence, and the rest of USA accept that, USA shouldn't start a war later to take it back.
As you saw with EU, UK could become independent, because those are the terms when you join EU.
The split of Taiwan from China is a result of civil war, and Taiwan has been independent since 1945, that's 79 years of independence. China reluctantly accepted this because they lacked power to invade. For many years Taiwan rulers claimed to be the legitimate rulers of China, which was ridiculous, now China claims to be the legitimate rulers of Taiwan which is equally ridiculous. To restart an almost century old war against a peaceful neighbor because of some sense of entitlement is insane.
The country was split in a civil war, there is no law of nature that requires the two to be one.
It's a sick way of thinking, that you can claim sovereignty by power over an independent nation. Just because historically the borders were different.
By that logic, Denmark could claim to be rightful rulers of Ireland, UK, Norway, half of Sweden, Northern Germany, Estonia and Iceland.
It's absolute insanity for a nation to feel entitled in that way. Even if we (Denmark) could, it wouldn't be better for anybody... Except maybe UK.
Yes once Taiwan was part of China, but it isn't anymore. If Texas want independence, they'll have to work on it politically.
