Ive been on the hunt for a while for something like this. I started looking again since the life360 breach. This is nearly perfect. Just need the iOS app to have a little more support and be in the app store for my less techy friends/family.

Same. Need iOS support to share with those close to me with iPhones.

Alternatives include PhoneTrack for Nextcloud (setup complicated but pretty much set it and forget it) or TICE (very easy setup, but only meant for temporary sharing).

If I recall phonetrack shared everyone with everyone. I like this Locus because its a one way share. So my brother can see where my wife is. But I can see where both are. I also like that its not Dependant on my infrastructure.

Yeah that's true

Zood location is probably better than this.

Both are useless to me because neither of them have iOS counterparts.

Many private messaging apps support this feature.

Best to avoid cryto like systems like Nostr

I've never seen a private messaging app that supported this feature.

GNU Jami does (I had in my head that there were other apps)

Does it need to be a live location?

That's what this is, so yes.
