I would expect heavy metal food contamination would be lower for younger generations. Detection methods are more sensitive and accurate, regulations are stricter, and leaded gasoline has been phased out.

What are the new sources of pollution this time? Any references I could check out?

General poor health has been increasing. Obesity rates and rates of lots of other conditions have all been increasing. It can't all be due to microplastics.
