This is the place for discussing the potential collapse of modern civilization and the environment.

Collapse, in this context, refers to the significant loss of an established level or complexity towards a much simpler state. It can occur differently within many areas, orderly or chaotically, and be willing or unwilling. It does not necessarily imply human extinction or a singular, global event. Although, the longer the duration, the more it resembles a ‘decline’ instead of collapse.

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger: Inhuman after all?

I agree that it theoretically would be easy to do all this and more - if we had the tools. Like the article says, for a hypothetical civilization.

If we had a global "climate government" that can plan at least part of the economy and can redistribute wealth and land at will - based on science and manhattan style research projects. Reorganizing how we live and work and change all living spaces into higher density and where food is grown nearby. Free education, healthcare and birth control for everyone. A planned economy would be much more efficient today because of supercomputers and artificial intelligence and could be much more democratic because of internet access. And do have unlimited energy through solar and wind and kite power, and we could create a circular economy that includes batteries for grid storage.

If we all turned all our resources and mental focus on this one task it would be easy.

But without a discussion about why we can't get there from the current civilization, and without new ideas of how to overcome the problems of greed and power seeking and corruption it remains science fiction.
