Valve has shown pretty good stewardship over their position so far, but I can't help roll my eyes every time someone proudly states that they'll only buy a game if it's on steam.

Sorry gamers, but not even your wholesome 100 Gaben steam sales are immune to enshittification. Sooner or later the company's ownership will fall into new hands, and then you'll wonder if tying your entire digital library to steam was maybe not the best idea in the world.

I used to prioritise buying on other storefronts like GoG, but now I just wait for the game to come out on Steam. It's simply too convenient. The fact that Steam may one day not be so good is not a particularly compelling reason for me, you could apply the same argument to every other storefront equally.
