Autobiography of Montana’s Tim Sheehy recalls special forces service but no record it was submitted for vetting

Tim Sheehy, the Republican candidate for US Senate in Montana, a race that could decide control of the chamber, appears to have failed to follow Pentagon rules for clearing portions of his autobiography about his time as a US navy Seal, documents obtained by the Guardian show.

Responding to freedom of information requests, officials with the Defense Office of Prepublication and Security Review (DOPSR) said that after “thorough searches of the electronic records and files”, they found no record of Sheehy submitting a DD 1910 form, required for all such projects, or any communications at all concerning review and approval of Mudslingers, the book Sheehy published with Permuted Press last year.

I can’t imagine being a veteran and supporting Trump. He has loudly proclaimed over and over through his words and policies that he doesn’t care about you.

The only people who support Trump are self-serving psychopaths. They're using Trump to further their own grift. And Trump is cool with that as long as he gets a piece.

self-serving psychopaths.

that's exactly it. we can't fathom the way these people think because we aren't physically WIRED to think like they do.

and its why I don't spend much time pondering why they are the way they are.

Some of them are also brainwashed. Like, they need legitimate cult deprogramming

Trump could pull his pants down and shit on the tomb of the unknown soldier, and his brain dead supporters would clap and cheer.

Not just doesn't care, but actively distains.

A bit of context from someone who, in a past life, had to care about this kind of stuff:

This is 100% bureaucratic and is a slap on the wrist, at best. Yes, there is paperwork you are supposed to fill out any time you approach anything even remotely sensitive. But said paperwork is almost never reviewed and it is a joke that, if it ever IS reviewed, you either get instantly approved or rejected depending upon what someone was yelled at for most recently.

The reality is that, like almost everything, it is up to you. You were part of the operation to kill Secret Bin Laden? Don't talk about it. If you do talk about it, stuff like not filling out the right paperwork is just an extra charge they can throw at you. If you don't talk about it? Stuff like not filling out the right paperwork is MAYBE a slap on the wrist and being told to go take a training again.

So if you are approaching anything sensitive? You set up a different meeting (which can be a REAL hassle if you aren't cleared anymore) to talk about it in the appropriate environment.

No idea if the shitstain leaked anything sensitive.

I'm a Proud Patriotic Republican and WHO THE FUCK CARES if they Steal Valor? Democrats want TRANS KIDS TO NOT KILL THEMSELVES!

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

This isn't about "stolen valor". The candidate was a Seal. He just wrote a book about it without asking the pentagon "mother may I" first.

I honestly can't tell if you are serious or not.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Then that awesome human is doing sarcasm correctly.

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Technically, that’s satire, which is like advanced sarcasm ;)

Maybe he did an ROTC stint as a clerk.
