I looked around a little on the internet and couldn't find anything about this.
Can you give some more details on this painting and the artist?
I saw the painting in person (this post is an OC photo), and the card with it gave all the information I posted.
Every Mormon Bishop in the early 1980s.
Tie is way too flashy to be Mormon. Some kind of Southern Baptist maybe.

The monster behind the door reminds me of the Groke from Moomins

I love everything about this. The detailing on the guy's face, how cartoonishly spooky the monster behind the door is, but really the overall texture of the canvas is what sets it apart. 10/10
For me, it's the reflection on the door and glasses, like it's coming from the flash of a camera. It's such a great unsettling detail that makes it more like a photo than a painting.
I think the monster is Barney.
