They can almost double their weight before hibernation. Of course something with that much fat is tasty haha
In German it's cutely named Siebenschläfer (seven sleeper). Cause it's hibernating for approx 7 months, or just a lot.

I'd try a few, maybe I'm not getting enough dormice in my diet.
I think they were held in earlier times as a deliverer of meat, for people who lived in cities and didn't have the space to hold pig. I guess? It would make sense.
No they were literally a delicacy. It was thought that eating them would help you sleep better.
