Bears are pretty chill honestly. I would generally take a bear over a strange man or woman in the woods. Unknown humans with unknown means and intentions are much more dangerous than a bear, hands down. In order: bear, woman, man. But it's like 85% bear, 10% woman, 5% man.

The only bear I'd be concerned about was a bear with a cub. If you see one, you are already in danger. So I'd say single bear > woman > man >>> bear with cub

I live somewhere where the most deadly animal we have are horses.
Is it just that being close enough to see a bear and cub is close enough that the bear considers you an imminent threat?
Apparently this mainly applies to grizzlies. Black bears with cubs may make a display but basically don't attack
