I've gone a long stretch without cubing (think a bit less than a decade) and, while it was refreshing coming back to the hobby, with new hardware and seeing it becoming even more popular, I was forced to confront the fact that I don't have much disposable time to practice.

While this is argument enough, I think, to prioritise focused practice, I generally find that the opposite becomes even more tempting: I generally just do a bunch of mindless solves, and while I do see myself improving, I doubt I'll improve as fast as I could. It's probable, even, that I'm reaching a skill ceiling for mindlessly solving.

I don't know what this is, maybe just a cubing-related rant about getting older.

I totally get it. I feel the same. Sometimes I only have a few minutes each day to cube and I’d spend them just doing random solves. I haven’t learned any new algs in months. My biggest improvement lately is in 4x4 and it’s solely because I bought the Aosu V7 and it works really well for me. It took my times down 5-10 seconds easily

Went to a comp this past weekend and brought my nephew along. Unfortunately it was too late for him to sign up for the comp but he got to watch and he helped judge a couple rounds. Hopefully there's another comp locally soon so he can join in the fun!
