Summary

President Biden announced a U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, effective Wednesday, ending over a year of deadly conflict that killed nearly 3,800 in Lebanon and displaced over 1.2 million.

The deal requires Hezbollah to pull forces 20 miles from Israel’s border, Israeli troop withdrawals within 60 days, and joint patrols by Lebanese forces and UN peacekeepers.

Biden emphasized Israel’s right to self-defense if terms are violated.

France supported implementation efforts, while Iran and Trump’s team were briefed.

Fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza remains unresolved.

I’m sure something will happen if they fail to withdraw within the 60 day deadline, right? Just like all the previous deadlines they failed to meet, right?

Mr. Biden said if Hezbollah or anyone else breaks the deal and poses a direct threat to Israel, then Israel retains the right to self-defense.

And if Israel breaks the deal then the Lebanese people have a right to self defense, too.

This couldn’t have happened 3 fucking months ago? Fuck Israel.

Is it only young people commenting under this post? Everyone is so skeptical as if Hezbollah and Israel haven't gone through this numerous times in the past.

Will it last forever? It never has before. Will it dramatically reduce hostilities for a period of time? Very likely.

How much you want to bet Israelis are going to be building houses all up in that 20-mile zone almost immediately?

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 10 points 10 hours ago

Yeah, funny Israel gets 2 months to retreat. My bet is they won't.

They're probably shipping the materials as we speak.

...within 60 days. So a week after trumps inauguration. What a coincidence.

It's probably hard to broker any deals longer than that because no one really knows what that orange turd is going to do.

[–] rammer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 hours ago

And that includes the orange one himself.

Too good, to be true. But I want to be mistaken.

Trump was elected. Not surprised.
