Assad was a difficult time too. The difference is stability. Syria has been fucked since 2011. At least now they can rebuild without an obvious dictator - the future will be finding someone who isn't a dictator to take up power.

Israel, Turkey, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc all want to control Syria so some coalition of foreign tyrants will rule for a bit, but this is ultimately a better future than under Assad.

Miraculous time for all those innocents tortured in Assad's prisons and liberated since this toppeling. "A blessing from God (Allah)" they will say.

i am very optimistic for once for Syria

Tahrir el sham has it's own fair share of torture

You should check out every other imperial invasion on the planet.

[–] DontMakeMoreBabies@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago

Lots of misplaced optimism in this thread.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Can anyone EILI5 what the implications of this might be, and why?

[–] nesc@lemmy.cafe 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Nobody knows, probably all of them will start a war with each other and isis somehow will return.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I am not optimistic that this will turn out well in any way for anyone.

[–] nesc@lemmy.cafe 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There are multiple groups whose goals are in conflict, at best they will form a working non religious government.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe. Until they fight it out and one of them comes out on top.

That's the whole point of imperialism.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com -4 points 2 weeks ago

Look at any other imperial invasion on the planet. Libya, iraq, afghanistan, etc.

The implications are that the place will be totally destroyed and everything of value will be stolen.

Natanyaho statement make me very pessimistic about Syria future

[–] small44@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This collapse is the direct result of our forceful action against Hezbollah and Iran

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Oh. I mean I don't know how direct it is but unfortunately (???) Israel contributed to a good thing for once. If this results in a free Syria I don't know he probably won't be able to sleep at night, but either way I think he's trying to take credit for it rather than Assad falling being some kind of 5D chess move. If it was anything like that Islamists wouldn't have been leading the offensive and HTS (which is Islamist) wouldn't be set to have the most influence in the post-Assad government.

[–] small44@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Nothing good about Islamic group talking control of the country. I am all for Bashar being out but it doesn't mean that the new rule will be better and that resistance groups in Palestine was getting arms from Syria.

This will only be good for America and Israel. They got a group that will fight Iran allies, keep Syria is rubble and allow more freedom for Israel to continue the genocide.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

No offense but the naivety here is pretty astounding. Just look at any other imperial invasions anywhere. I recommend libya or iraq for most relevance.

If it was anything like that Islamists wouldn’t have been leading the offensive and HTS (which is Islamist) wouldn’t be set to have the most influence in the post-Assad government.

Zionists and islamists have exactly the same goals with different religious branding. It's why ISIS apologized to the zios. Fascists work together as it suits them.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 1 points 2 weeks ago

Huh? That's so wrong I have no idea where you got it from. ISIS do not represent Islamists in general, or anyone but themselves. I'm not using "bad apples" logic here; ISIS was bad enough to be rejected by other Islamists, and almost everyone else. Israel, and the West in general, absolutely despise Islamists because they among other things are fundamentally opposed to Western hegemony and Israeli Apartheid, as would be observed from US behavior during the war on terror and its consideration of every Islamist organization out there are terrorist.

Empire just made another libya, iraq, afghanistan, ukraine, etc.
