I'm really enjoying co-op games that I can play with friends. Like Phasmophobia, Necesse, Minecraft, Terraria, Back 4 Blood, Battlebit, PlateUp!

SIngle player games / simulation games, the only FPS I've kept around is CS:GO really. Also play Warframe sometimes but the grind is painful sometimes
My favorites from a mechanical standpoint are typically 3rd person shooters or action games. Games with perspective like the Arkham Games or the Resident Evil remakes.
As for genre, that's a tough call. It's easier to say what I don't like. I don't typically like jrpgs or anything with an anine art esthetics, although there's a lot of exceptions.
I also like old-style 2D Zelda games and those like them. Also twin stick shooters.
As for the settings, I like a good horror over pretty much anything else.
I like my games to have a story. I can enjoy any game mechanic if the story is good enough.
Mostly racing sims but I combine it with some smaller/older games for diversity.
Replaying MGS1 at the moment
Action RPG and flight sim!
I'm currently playing battlebit.
Competitive games. Mostly this is shooters, but things like Rocket League, fighting games, racing games... Anything you play against other humans, really.
Video game AI just isn't good enough to give me that rush I crave. I need to fight shit that can out think me, not just have laser accuracy. Then I can get better and out think them, in a never ending escalation of beating each other's ass. 😁
- FPS games
I like FPS games with a longer TTK (time to kill) on average. Not so big on the more realistic ones. Team Fortress 2, Deep Rock Galactic (PvE but still), Overwatch 1, and recently Battlebit has broken a bit from the trend for me, but I'm enjoying it.
- Strategy, 4X games
Love 4X (explore, expand, exploit, exterminate) games. Civilization 5/6 and Stellaris have taken up a lot of my time.
- Roguelikes/lites
Love these, of many different genres. Slay the Spire, Monster Train, Across the Obelisk for card based ones, Enter the Gungeon is one of the few games I've totally 100%ed, Hades is a masterpiece, and I'm always looking around for new ones.
Those are the big genres I'm into. I branch out into other stuff often, but I'll always come back to these.
I prefer FPS and roguelites (currently, deck building ones in particular).
But most of all I love horror games. In case you do, too, I created a community for discussing horror video games.
It’s called horrorgaming. :) I think the link would be something like https://lemmy.world/c/horrorgaming (fixed the link, forgot the c in between world and the community's name :D )
I keep returning to MSFS 2020 on a daily basis. Trying to force myself to like KSP2, after many hours in the original. Can easily lose myself in RDR2 or GTA5. Am eagerly awaiting City Skylines 2.
Visual novels, shooters, action RPGs... It might be easier to say which genres I don't like:
Sport games, shovelware and gimmick games (yeah I'm making a genre of it lol).
I used to love MMOs (Eve Online and FFXIV) back when I had masses of free time and could get away with coming home from work and getting stuck into a game from 6pm until 12pm every night. The communities I got to join in with were great and it was really fun. Loved Dota 2 for years as well.
Now that I've got a kid though I have to play things that I can pick up and put down quickly and easily and that's kind of pushed me into mostly playing single player games now. Currently playing FFXVI.
Is that what we're supposed to do with 'em?
Strategy, space sim, driving, open world.
I really like to play many various genres, it depends on my mood
Most recently I played:
-
tears of the kingdom. 100% the game and really looking forward to some dlc
-
Grim Fandango. A fantastic point & click game that sat in my backlog for years and finally played it and finished it.
-
been going hard on Diablo 4, can't wait for season 1
-
some Fortnite but only if friends ask me to play with them
-
command & conquer remastered
Recently got a steam deck and playing games like:
-
cult of the lamb
-
cuphead. Damn, this game is hard.
-
pinball fx3
I mostly play JRPGs and SRPGs. Preferably more on the linear side as I can only enojoy at most 1-2 open world games a year before they get tedious.
Inbetween those, I occasionally play games from all sorts of genres. Except for FPS and multiplayer stuff.
Strategy and empire building! Total war is by far my favorite series.
Mount and blade/Bannerlord is up there too.
Competitive shooters, cs and valo mostly. I'll automatically try to find the most optimal playstyle in any game i play, which ends up in me losing interest when it gets too easy. In PvP comp games the opponents are doing the same so it doesn't feel like I'm cheesing my way trough. Anything with a decent ranking system is my jam, because owning noobs is fun for a while but a win feels way more rewarding when it was a hard fought back and forth.
