I wonder which will kill you first?

[–] Banzai51@midwest.social 1 points 1 week ago

Another commenter recommended Flatseal. I now have it installed and I'll give it a shot when I run into an issue.

Not the individual apps, no. Figured it might be something more systemic with Flatpak itself or my system. Was expecting to be pointed to logs to investigate.

The Deb installs mostly. Example, when I installed Lutris, it wouldn't allow me to install games on the extra NVMe drive I have in the system. I uninstalled Lutris and installed the deb version from the Pop Shop (when you COULD do that) and it allowed me to install games where I liked. Just chalked it up to a Flatpak problem. Now I have Lutris installed, use it without issues, and I'm not going to try and solve Flatpak issues by re-installing it. It's not worth my time.

I'm not looking for specific app help. Just had so many issues with different apps installed with Flatpak that I figured there might be something in the system or Flatpak itself that I needed to look into. I'll use Flatseal the next time I have an issue to see if that helps.

Currently, any flatpak apps that don't work properly are installed with other means, so I don't have any non-working apps . If I run into that again, I'll give it a try.

No use using flatpak if the installed apps won't run properly. Be nice if they did, but they don't.

Calibre
Discord
Filebot
Lutris
OpenRGB
Proton Mail
ProtonUp-QT
Spotify

Only apps installed that I haven't had issues with flatpak:
Handbrake
Shortwave
Tor
Putty

Likely a few more that I uninstalled in frustration. And I'm not 100% sure about Handbrake. I stopped using it for the Blu-ray rips, and stuff that interacts with the filesystem tend to break the most in flatpaks.

Hey All, I've hear lots of people talk positively about Flatpaks, but every app I've installed through Flatpaks simply won't work. They'll install and initially run ok, but the second you use the app either it just doesn't do what it is supposed to do or I get weird permission issues. Uninstalling then using the deb package or other direct installs gives me apps that actually work. And it seems the Pop Shop no longer gives me any identification of whether the app is a deb or flat pack.

Anything I can look into on the system to see if there is something on my end that needs changed? The more I hear Pop is heading down the Flatpak road, the more I'm thinking of hopping off the train.

TV streaming STARTED fragmented. Just it was all bundled together in a cable subscription. The (ineffective) moderator in that were the cable companies like Comcast, who were always trying to negotiate the price of a channel down. Suddenly with streaming, you could start your own service and getting dropped by someone like Comcast wasn't the death sentence it used to be. The TV content creators are dealing with the end user for the first time.

The music industry long ago learned they get better sales when all their vynal/cassettes/CDs are available at Kmart/Walmart/Best Buy/etc. The music industry DID fragment a bit with online streaming, but those quickly failed. And the artists soon realized that being cool and exclusive to iTunes lead to less money for them.

If you have old coax cable already in your walls, MOCA 2.5 devices can be used to turn them into 1 Gig Ethernet.

In tech, nothing is for life.

But, I would recommend something you can install OpenWRT or OpenSense. If sorting out hardware isn't for you, I have a Ubiquity UDM Pro and love it. I miss some of the fine tuning of OpenWRT, but the extra security features on the UDM seem worth it to me.

Poor Steelers fans. But at least we'll get some good content from Tree. Pray for his liver.

Hey all, anyone know if there are any directions on how to swap out to the assist_satellite from this depreciated sensor? Normally when there is a swap like this, the Home_Assistant folks give us some directions, but I can't find squat on this.

Hey All, When my desktop was Windows, I'd use my desktop to rip DVD/Blu-rays, move them to the movies folder, then use robocopy to copy just new files from my desktop to my Plex server. Used switches to copy just the new files and folders.

What is the Linux equivalent to do this?

Hey All,

I'm looking for a good softphone in Linux. I tried Linphone, but it had the same issue I had in Windows where I could send texts ok, but can't send and receive calls. In Windows, I used Microsip since it worked as soon as I configured it. Linphone seems to be "special." Any suggestions?

And I don't care about video calls.

Hey all, noob here. In the system settings of Pop OS I chose dark mode. At first everything was fine. But something happened. This issue is only happening in the Show Applications area. It is dark mode, but the text is all black instead of switching over to a lighter color like it did before. Makes it tough to read as you can see in the screenshot. I've tried flipping to light mode and then back to dark mode several times of varying length with no success. Any tips to get it back to normal?

Bonus issue: I have uninstalled OpenRGB, but it is still showing up in the app list as you can see in the screenshot. Any way to remove it? If I reinstall OpenRGB, I get a second icon.

So just got my computer switched over to Pop! OS.

When I open the Pop Shop, the installers don't give me an option to change the location of the app installs. I have 4 disks, 2 nvmes, 2 hard disks. I would prefer to install some of my apps to the 2nd nvme, which I have mounted to /Apps. Mainly the games I will play, along with Stream and Lutris.

Would I need to install from the terminal with apt or nala? I installed nala because it looks cleaner, but we'll see.

Hey everyone, I recently acquired the 4k77, 4k80, and 4k83. However, the 4k80 one looks grainy. 77 and 83 look clear in comparison. Did I just get a bad copy, or does 4k80 have issues?

Has anyone got Home Assistant to work with an IP phone as a local voice control?

I have a Grandstream GXP 2140, and I cannot get it talking to HA for the functionality. It doesn't have the same settings as the Grandstream pots to IP Phone device from the article.

https://www.home-assistant.io/voice_control/worlds-most-private-voice-assistant/

I have Whisper and Piper installed, and showing up under the Wyoming protocol. I have the IP Phone addon installed, but it never detects my phone.

Hey everyone, I've started playing around with Assist to use voice to kick off actions. However, I want to put an Assist widget on my Android home screen. The directions from HA say to open your widgets, go to Home Assistant, then long press the Assist widget. However, when I go to select a widget, there is no Assist widget available.

I have Assist setup and I can access it from the mobile app. But I would like a shortcut so I can quickly access it.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Or is the documentation out of date?

Phone: OnePlus 9, running Android 13.
Hopefully this isn't an OxygenOS issue.

So I installed i2p on a Linux Mint VM. I'm able to see i2p sites, but I'm also able to browse clearnet sites, which I thought would not work. Does the default Linux installer configure an exit node by default?
