Kind of reminds me of Goblin Valley. I don't think it is. Too green and rocks are the wrong color. But first thing that came to mind.

Might exist, or maybe there's some API that I can utilize in which case I could script it. I've done a very cursory search but nothing stood out.

I would love something that would grab x most popular songs from an artist/genre/year range that I have in my music library and create a playlist file. For if I'm just feeling like some "greatest hits" style music. And I don't want an LLM involved.

I share a good number of these. I don't like tomato, olives, or anything fishy tasting. I do like anise flavored things such as black licorice.

The remaining stuff our tastes differ on.

I think this is fair. I've noticed a fair amount of new, and to me, nonsensical words and phrases in recent years. Perhaps the only thing that has changed is that I'm just older and out of touch. And that's fine with me if that's the case.

If this stuff sticks around and becomes part of the vernacular, I'll adapt to it. If it's just a current trend, then no need to.

Same. I would love to see a global societal shift towards viewing not having children as a perfectly normal thing to do.

My completely subjective and not at all data driven experience of how many I feel I heard this year as opposed to previous years is at least the same. Possibly more. Though I live in a fairly conservative area.

You are not alone in that.

I am but a single humble meatbag that enjoys games and can't speak for all gamers, but I generally dislike the typical "gaming rig" aesthetic. I don't want RGB lights. I don't like ostentatious looking cases or accessories. I do find it tasteless, to reuse your term.

No sleight on those that do though. If that's your style, then enjoy it!

Referring to kids, quite aptly, as "post-campaign content" /chefskiss

I was able to retain time and money for gaming and other hobbies by having a vasectomy.

Edit: Typo

Tangential, but anyone passing by this comment and doesn't like popcorn after working at a theater?

Whenever I see a bowl of popcorn it reminds me of that smell of popcorn and coke mixed together in a garbage can. It's not so bad that I don't eat it at all. But if I do, I have very little.

I'd been using ZFS with Void linux on both my laptop and desktop for a couple of months. And ZFS is cool! But I'm thinking not great for my use case, especially for my laptop with it's more constrained resources. Memory usage was a real problem, even after imposing low ARC limits. And the kernel module compile time was long enough to be a bit annoying, especially for a few kernels (I like to keep the last few around, to be safe) as it happens fairly often on a rolling release.

I switched the laptop to LUKS/btrfs a couple of days ago. And I'm thinking that was the correct choice for that. And now I'm considering doing the same for my desktop. As they seem comparable but btrfs is in-kernel and seemingly more system resource friendly. But before doing so I figured I'd ask the community about it. Maybe some important factors or features for either setup that I might not be considering.

Here's the stuff I care about. All of which both offer, but I'm not an expert at either and I don't know how equal they are.

  • Disk encryption. For ZFS everything (except the EFI partition) is encrypted. I use ZFSBootMenu in this scenario. For the btrfs setup I have the kernel/initramfs on an ext2 partition. I do not store any decryption keys in the initramfs. I know grub can decrypt LUKS with limitations, but I prefer this setup. And it feels secure enough to me. Any pitfalls I'm missing?
  • Pools/subvolumes
  • Snapshots. ZFSBootmenu has an option to load a snapshot. For btrfs it looks like I'd need to create a subvolume from a snapshot, which in a recovery situation might mean doing this from recovery media. That's ok, given this is an unlikely thing to encounter. But if anyone knows of an easier way, I'd love to hear it.
  • CoW
  • RAID 1
  • Compression is nice, especially for the laptop

Edit: typo in title.
