I've played a good bit of FTL and never felt like I knew what I was doing.

I actually noticed recently that it's no longer maintained so I'll have to find another desktop solution.

Just report and move on

Security through obscurity is no security at all. You've fallen for the marketing if you think apple cares about your privacy any more than any other big tech company.

Mods here may not appreciate this post since it's pretty off topic, but I'm sure glad to have seen this!

Just upgraded to 0.0.36 from fdroid (likely Izzy repo because I doubt fdroid was that fast compiling this newest version released yesterday) and I'm having the same issue. Can't get my home page to show me anything but local/new. Suppose I'll be downgrading until they get it fixed.

For me at least jerboa isn't really functional for searching for new communities, let alone instances. You're better off in your mobile browser. And even then you'll only find instances that are already federated with your home instance (meaning someone on you home instance will have had to search and subscribe to one of the communities on the instance you're trying to find). Your best bet for finding instances is actually outside websites like https://join-lemmy.org/instances or other websites dedicated to listing and sorting instances.

On desktop I use Tildes. It's fairly minimalistic in terms of features, but very smooth and attractive UI. It does what I need with no headaches and looks great doing it. Like many others here I use AntennaPod on mobile.

This is fixed on the new version of the app! You can get it on F-droid with the IzzyOnDroid repo, or build it directly with Obtainium

You can also use Redreader. It's been my main way of accessing reddit for years and it's actually the only app (that I know of) with the API exception for being accessibility focused and non-monetized. It's FOSS and has been ad free forever, although I fear reddit will make them start serving reddit's ads on the first.

On mobile I use bromite-buildtools maintained by Uazo on github. I've read they were involved with bromite when it was still actively maintained and have been continuing to improve it and keep it up to date with chromium upstream. I use Obtainium to keep it updated since it's not on fdroid or Izzy.

On desktop I keep it simple with FF and ublock
