I'll try that.

I agree, actually. It's actually unreasonable to think people were any better or worse before, there's always good and bad... The difference is what's accepted by the rest of us. Great response, I appreciate it!

A person who otherwise wouldn't be noticed suddenly getting attention they never received thrown at them can easily abuse it if they don't control their behavior with a moral compass, which is becoming less and less a priority. When something feels good, many indulge. When you overindulge, you justify. When you get good at justifying, you can make anything okay in your head. If you don't have a line drawn, it's wild how far people will go... he went way too far and he should endure the consequences.

You sound like the type of person I wouldn't want to work for... you're here posting so you're interested but not if the labor has to be compensated? Crack that whip, big daddy!

If the steaks that smell so good you're here at the restaurant cost too much, LJD isn't telling you to go to McDonald's with your poor ass... Just slap "dns.adguard.com" in your provider hostname and enjoy a great app?

This is genuinely a tough position to address, as I see both parties' sides. I can't blame a dev for setting up a system to ensure he gets paid, I'm on antiwork with a lot of you, raging out about how minimum wage hasn't gone up and employers want to squeeze every last drop of labor out of their employees and give them as little possible in compensation... and I also see the side of wanting the spirit of greed (the source of Reddit's choices that caused the exodus) to not have soil to take root here...

In Sync's defense, it's so far ahead of any of the FOSS apps I tried while I waited for it to release that I don't think it's greedy for the dev to set up a system to earn some compensation for their efforts and whatever ability enabled him to create an app so far ahead of the other Lemmy apps. I wonder how much these other poor devs have made from their work on the other Lemmy apps that have sprouted... might explain why they're lacking in comparison, they can't put as much effort into their app while holding a full time job because unless there's an incentive to compensate, the comments in response to Sync's release have made it apparent that a lot of the lemmy preachers of FOSS are really just cheapskates, whose attraction to the "ethos" is the free stuff, not the principle.

On the other hand, I can understand the price point and the subscription system aren't exactly what many expected or view as "reasonable." For me, $1.99 a month doesn't bother me, I make enough to cover that from Google Opinion Rewards so it's no money out of my pocket. If that amount is too much, go to Network Settings and add "DNS.adguard.com" to your private DNS provider hostname field and don't pay for it. I still don't think it's worth not using the app because you think the dev is greedy for not wanting to work for free. That mentality keeps up, the spez's will start taking notes from us on how to get folks to provide services with no compensation at all!

Definitely! I just want people to stop raging out at the idea of showing some love to the individuals that are making this Fediverse thing happen... There's a difference in not wanting to be ripped off/taken advantage of by rich corporations and just being plain cheap. Lol

Bless the Connect devs, they gave a good go at it but Sync is just too good. I applaud them though, their app held me over until now.

This morning when I got the notification it was downloading, lemmy.world was straight up down. Whether it's true or not, I'm saying it was Sync's release and the flood of new users.

I know we're all anxious for Sync for Lemmy. I also know there's a lot that goes into getting Sync ready as it transitions from Reddit to Lemmy. It isn't a process many of us are all that familiar with or... well, let's face it, we wouldn't have a community waiting impatiently for our app.

The beloved ljdawson has always provided, not only a feature rich and completely customizable experience, but a sturdy and dependable app, free of most of the bugs and issues many of the others couldn't. Link handling, sharing options, mod tools... we had the luxury of taking for granted. Luxuries that the list of fledgling Lemmy apps can't begin to offer because of the reason why I can't wait for Sync for Lemmy, and that's the primary reason we all should be happy to...

I'm currently using my mobile browser to access Lemmy. Every app, from the official Jerboa to Connect to Thunder and Wefwef and many others in between, have their strengths and weaknesses, individually, but one trait they all share: the bugs in communication with the Lemmy platform as it develops ahead of them. It feels like their developers are so anxious to push their app that that don't, and due to its ever-developing nature, CAN'T address some of the disconnects that make their app unpleasant to use and this is exactly why, as much as I am missing an app that delivers my fix for content, I am willing to wait for Sync. LJD has, in the past, proven that a dependable experience is an important feature of his app and if a little more time is required to deliver that? I'm happy to give it to him. Because what use is a Sync-like UI if many functions slide an error message from the bottom with little more than some html as explanation? Or an attempt to submit a post doesn't even offer somewhere to input the link to your content? Or the myriad of other standards Sync so graciously allowed us to become accustomed to?

I don't write articles for some tech site, so this was probably long winded and mostly unnecessary but I felt like, maybe, some others are stuck between checking for the email to finally get a solid Lemmy app daily and being completely willing to give as much time as needed for an experience that isn't so... exhausting. It's a tough spot to be in, especially if you share the opinion that a solid Lemmy app will really make this whole thing happen. For now, this is the only place we can be, so whether we like it or not, patience in the appreciation that a little extra time may do a LOT more good than just satisfying our individual content addictions is the side I'd recommend we all remain on. LJD, thanks for what you're doing, take all the time you need...
