I have to ask how many millennia you expect the Federation to endure without periods of fragility?

The Federation isn’t wrecked forever in Discovery.

A half a millennium is a long time for human societies to stay stable, especially given the out-and-out full scale Temporal War that targeted the Federation.

It’s also important to keep in mind that it’s the Federation’s enduring values that allow it to be restored.

I felt as though something was lost when Odo rarely shifted. It became an almost implausible possibility despite being an essential component of his identity.

Yes, we still have them all.

I have noticed that all of these are still available ‘On Demand’ on BellFibe or in the Fibe app for CTV Sci-fi channel subscribers. The classic series are still in the forward schedule in Fibe.

It’s always time to rewatch The Cage…

But all the moreso this week.

Yes. Time heals.

Key events are preserved but the details may change and slip a bit. The details can include slippage in the dates.

The 90s date was implicitly overwritten by TNG’s premiere where Roddenberry himself decided to shift WW3 to the mid 21st century.

People had head canoned the link between the Eugenics wars and WW3 out of existence, while also ignoring that TOS implied Warp was discovered in the late 20th century.

Accepting that temporal incursions alter the Prime Timeline just makes sense of events like Voyager Endgame.

I have a feeling that there are fans of Star Trek V The Final Frontier here.

The lesson should be that bizarre ideas for 5th movies should never be brought to screen.

Is Mlemmy different from Mlem?

I was trying Mlem in beta through Test Flight, but it wasn’t very functional yet, despite the nice interface. (I’ve been finding just going through the browser good enough for now.)

Thanks for this.

There was a new wave of frustrated folks looking for help on r/lemmy yesterday, mostly for lemmy.world which sounds like it was overwhelmed again, but not only that instance.

I can drop this suggestion when I see a new complaint in the megathead.

I’m mainly just on Reddit to help some of my longtime chat buddies ale the migration.

Paramount+‘s app is not well loved in the US from what I’ve seen.

However, Paramount+ can also be subscribed to through Amazon Prime if you have that already. Definitely an option to consider.

Got it. Thanks for clarifying.

Unfortunately these aggregator pages, including the Lemmy Fediverse Observer create the impression that the site is closed completely vs. taking reasonable precautions to ensure verifiable signups.

Is this instance currently taking new registrations? It might be good to get a PSA out…

I understand you’re running 17.4 so captcha can be used. My understanding was this was done because new signups are being allowed.

When I look at various aggregators of Lemmy instance information however, w keep seeing that startrek.website is closed to signup.

Take for example the information available through Lemmy - Fediverse Network Statistics posted on fedidb.org.

As there are a significant number of unhappy redditors just now who might wish to join Lemmy but are discouraged, it would be good to confirm.

I really appreciate the simple pathway that was offered for users on r/startrek back before the subs went dark June 12th. It was a successful migration for me mostly, but I understand that there’s a largish crowd of frustrated folks who haven’t made it through.

I was considering your usage of ‘palimpsest’. It’s not a bad way of looking at what remains, net, after the incursions have taken place.

But the river, strong, advancing with force in its riverbed is a great analogy too. Its momentum is enormous, its course hemmed-in by some fixed geology. Only something near-catastrophic will cause it to divide or jump its course.

By the way, I have been thinking about the temporal accords and the prohibition against time travel in the 32nd century. This will mean that the far post-Burn era will be the only one where these kinds of perturbations shouldn’t be permitted. It would be interesting to hear more from Kovich on this.
