So it's a nazi propaganda machine with extra steps?

I'm surprised I can't find any actual abacus input devices. Like, shouldn't there be an abacus with usb that sends bytecode

OK, I'm on Debian Trixie with Gnome and just got a new (used) geforce 1050ti graphics card. I installed the proprietary drivers, and everything was working fine (after wrangling wine issues) until I turned on the sound. Playing something simple from a single audio source would work OK. But if another program started playing something, or if I pause/played quickly, then the audio would get all distorted and echo-y.

So far, the only way I can get the audio to be stable is the following:

  1. in gnome settings, set the audio output to HDMI/displayport
  2. install easyeffects
  3. under output/players, enable the PipeWire ALSA [fluidsynth] playback
  4. under PipeWire/General, uncheck the "Use default output", and change the output to "Built-in Analog Stereo" (which in my case isn't hooked up with anything)

Alternatively, I can changev the Gnome settings to the "Built-in Analog", and then in easyeffects, I can exclude the pipewire ALSA, and enable whatever programs I want to hear. The problem with this method is the Gnome volume control then doesn't work.

I'm mainly posting in hopes this gets indexed and helps some other wayward linux weirdo in the future. But I'm also curious if yall have any suggestions for a more permanent fix. Remove ALSA? In the default configuration, it definitely seems like there's some feedback or doubling or interference going on with pipewire and/or ALSA.

But linux audio is still black magic to me. I don't even know if ALSA or pipewire is a lower level. It's one of those situations where I half-solve a problem I couldn't find by googling, and just want to put it out in the ether

I agree in the abstract, but I think you need to meet people where they are. And most working poor in the US rely on cars. I like NJB, and haven't seen ghoulish behavior from him. But most "urbanists" love making cars even more expensive for the poors, without really considering the consequences

Bike lanes: 👍👍

Public transit: 👍👍👍👍

Aggressive ticketing, increasing parking rates, no on street overnight parking, car taxes, etc: 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

If you're in the US, you could point to the news. Even garden variety libs should be a little nervous about the increasing police state

OP, you should know that Radio Free Asia is American propaganda in the most literal sense. Although this is bad propaganda, since it just makes Chinese workers look cool af

imagine an app that is sort of like a panic button. You get pulled over, you open the app and hit the button which then (depending on your preferences), starts recording/streaming video and audio, locks the phone, and maybe starts recording accelerometer/gps data, etc.

It would need to be thoroughly developed/tested before actually it could be ethically recommended.

What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea? unfeasible? Already existing?

Not because DDG got better, but just because google got worse.

google is still better for site-specific searches, and google scholar still has minimal AI slop

I could sign up with a google account, but can't bind my phone number, or start an account using my number. Do I need to get a canadian voip number, or what?

I'm interested in leftist opinions of employee-owned companies. If that's still too broad, could you give some examples of employees buying their employer out? Or are there other ways, like with a union?

Also, what's up with King Arthur's and Bob's Red Mill?

Im learning how to see right now. I've just someone some bags and pillows so far, but I really want to make clothing. I'll start simple, but I'd eventually like to make the things that (imo) are the hardest to get as a trans woman: panties, bras, and pants. Have any of you made these? Do you have any resources or communities you recommend?

I did not have 'Pelosi takes on the gerontocracy' on my 2024 bingo card

One Pelosi ally said it was possible she would press Biden publicly to give up his spot atop the Democratic ticket.

“The speaker does not want to call on him to resign, but she will do everything in her power to make sure it happens,” this person said, referring to Biden quitting the race.

[Edit] changed the title to Politico's after reading this community's sidebar

Biden has done more to undermine the US empire in the last 8 months than Trump did in 4 years. Biden is exposing the contradictions of US empire in a way that Trump could never.

If Trump was president, then the mainstream narrative would be that the genocide in Gaza was simply because of Trump and Bibi's leadership. And you know what? Given how past presidents were able to rein in Israel when polite society started sympathizing with Palestinians, it would be believable. Instead, we get to see front and center, how a man that's been at the top echelons of us foreign policy for decades approves and supports genocide. This is the establishment's genocidal war.

In other words, Trump is perceived as an aberration, even when hes just continuing the same US foreign policy that weve been doing for decades. Moving the embassy to Jerusalem is still framed as entirely Trump's decision, even though he was just enacting a policy that Biden voted for in the 90s. And of course Biden did nothing to reverse that move, or even try to extract concessions to move peace talks forward.

Biden is damaging the "international rules-based order" in a way that would make Dick Cheney blush. Bush at least tried to put a veneer of international law on the criminal invasion of Iraq. But it appears the US and Israel are ready to burn the UN to the ground in order to carry out this genocide. Trump would be doing the same exact thing, except he would also serve as a scape goat for the liberal order (just get trump out of office, and we can go back to rule-following)

Don't get me wrong, they're both excellent accelerationist candidates. The world is watching two senile, hateful, egotistical vile men fight for control of the empire as the world burns.

Looking for recommendations of music podcasts. The only one I listen to is Afropop worldwide, which is one of my favorite podcasts/radio shows . I realize there aren't a ton of straight-up music podcasts because of copyright issues, but what have you got?
