This, I was also a hiring manager in sciencey fields. We also verified education, even with a robust job history. I share the same sentiment and could not embellish on my resume because it’s pretty hard to lie about technical expertise in science and engineering. Also, the labs I’ve worked in have very expensive instruments, not a good idea to ‘wing it’ with those things.

I choose to believe the dog is alive and well. I think they wrote “last meal for our dog” as an indication of order (e.g. the last item on the list) to ensure that the cook took extra care to make sure there is no seasonings and so it could be prepped rarer than one would typically make for human consumption.

I would also add that they tend correlate wealth as a sign of intelligence and hold wealthy people in the highest esteem.
They also try to emulate wealthy people via conspicuous consumption, creating an outward illusion of wealth and success. I have a family member on section 8 who buys luxury goods to lord their ‘success’ over their friends and neighbors. It’s absolutely mind blowingly insane.
