I just started Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Saga. It's a weird one and I love it! The atmosphere is incredible and the systems are really fun right out of the gate.

I also have a playthrough of Trails in the Sky SC going on and it's so charming. Great turn based combat too.

Aaaand I also tried out Slay the Spire for the first time to kill some time here and there and I have to say this thing should be regulated. So adictive!

I think immutable is great for everyone, I struggle to find a point against it but maybe I'm a supernoob too hahaha (I use NixOS, btw)

Yeah some people for sure will come to Linux, and that's good. Maybe that PewDiePie video (as much as I don't like it) will have some impact too.

The biggest hump is probably video games, even I do most of my gaming on Windows. I guess Valve is making really good progress there, but I don't think we'll see mainstream Linux native game development any time soon.

Also, sounds like there are some cool people at your university!

this is awesome, thanks!

Heck yeah! I hear a lot of people go to Mint as their first Linux distribution. I don't know what the experience is like now, but it's probably good for newcomers. I think EndeavourOS is another good one. Right now I'm fully invested in NixOS, but it's not beginner-friendly at all. I think it's the best OS out there right now, though, so feel free to check it out!

Sounds interesting, I'll check it out.

Luckily, I have the ROM part covered, but thanks for the pointer 👌

Why is everyone so sure that W10 support ending will have its users stampede towards Linux? I think most users don't care about support and will happily run an outdated OS. They'll probably switch to Apple if they are concerned with that. Am I being too pessimistic?

Yeah I've sometimes used all those sites at some point, but they're so vast (or have only manuals, like vimm's lair). I was interested in finding something a bit more curated and game-oriented.

Thanks! Didn't know about this one.

Sometimes, a video game enjoyer just wants to be showered in nostalgia.

Sometimes maybe they just want to be more immersed before starting a playthrough of a classic game.

Maybe they obsessively keep a (digital) journal and want to give it a bit more color by including trailers, posters, commercials, you name it.

So I wanted to ask what your go-to sites to get all that good stuff are. Are there any, even?

Tanks for your clarification!

I guess there are some tradeoffs, for sure. I've encountered a couple things:

  • Bad location functionality. The phone is most likely to blame for this, but I can't say with certainty. GOS uses a custom proxy server for location related operations, so maybe that's the reason, or maybe I fiddled too much with settings and messed something up.
  • Very ocasional crashes due to exploit protection. This almost never happens, but can be annoying. Some app may have a bug that would be overlooked by another OS or try to access some feature that is considered exploitable and the system will kill it, letting you know why with a notification. You can fine-tune these protections at the system or app level to make it work for you though (at your own risk).
  • If "tap to pay" refers to NFC payments through some app like Google Pay, I think they do work. You just have to enable NFC (you can even enable it only if the device is unlocked, which is cool), and configure contactless payments with your payment app. I don't use this feature though, so I'm not speaking from personal experience.

I think that's it, really. I found the actual user experience to be quite breezy.
