I’ve been having trouble keeping this instance up - right now, it’s a problem with proxy errors between the docker containers as well as with the Ansible scripts. It’s taking too much time to maintain. I'll be shutting down wayfarershaven.eu per 31 October 2023.

That means that the fountainpens community here will also disappear. Anyone who would like to restart this on another instance is more than welcome to do so.

Please see the sidebar, third link in the section about communities. Removing per rule #3.

What's your preferred app for the text-to-speech function?

Hey all! My apologies for the fact that the instance has been down. For those who are curious, it turns out that the Lemmy volumes had ballooned and taken up all the space on the server. I've reclaimed the space and set a recurring task to make sure that it automatically gets cleaned up going forward.

This shows the vulnerability of small instances run by a single admin - I wasn't able to sit down and troubleshoot the issue. I don't have a good solution for you beyond recognizing that sometimes things willl take time when there isn't a team or paid business with SLAs. If you have things you'd like to see change, I'm happy to discuss.

Eating M&Ms by color - it has absolutely no purpose and they're bad for me, but oh so satisfying.

@OriginalThinker@lemmy.ml, I'm responding to your DM here.

We don't move posts to the correct community because Lemmy doesn't have that option - and I'd rather you got to choose where your content lands.

As for why we don't reach out and tell people - this is a volunteer job on a big community. We rely on the mod log and allow this kind of meta post to stay up for transparency and discussion. Otherwise, we focus on following the rules laid out so that this community can stay within its intended scope. This is a community for open questions and discussion - not support.

I'm sorry you don't feel welcomed - that's tough. However, communities come with their own rules and mods will make sure they're enforced. I'd recommend checking those rules carefully before posting in the future as that will help the reception of your post.

This is more of a support question, related to using Lemmy. Please see the sidebar for a list of communities that offer support. Removing under rule #3.

I access Lemmy through the browser all the time. The experience is solid and consistent across devices and I need access to both mod and (occasionally) admin tools.

[-] hsl@wayfarershaven.eu 1 points 1 year ago

We could - but we're still getting comments here. Why not continue to use this thread and sort by new?

Also - this topic doesn't even really belong in Asklemmy per the rules. If anything, I'm more inclined to unpin it and return to dealing with posts as needed.

[-] hsl@wayfarershaven.eu 17 points 1 year ago

It's not just the mods but the admins going to lengths to keep their instances clean. The awfulness outlined in that post means I'm not sure I should keep hosting my own instance.

[-] hsl@wayfarershaven.eu 2 points 1 year ago

Please check the sidebar for tips. Closing per rule #3.

[-] hsl@wayfarershaven.eu 1 points 1 year ago

Removing per rule 4 - we've have a few similar questions and this doesn't cover any new ground.

Locking this thread per rule #2; we don't have the bandwidth to moderate political discussions.

Sharing because I can see this community having thoughts to share. :)

With so much note taking apps nowadays, I can't understand why does anyone still write notes with pen and paper. You need to bring the notepad, book or that paper to retrieve that information, and most of the time you don't have it in hand. While my phone almost always reachable and you carry when you go out. For those still like to do handwriting, there's many app does that and they can even convert it to text notes.

So, if you still write notes with pen and paper, why?

I added a search option to a community's sidebar - this will be helpful to find past answers but also to check and see if someone has already asked that question recently.

For example, here are the latest posts on password managers: https://lemmy.ml/search?q=password&type=Posts&listingType=All&communityId=8&page=1&sort=TopAll

I've set it to search through Lemmy.ml - this has the pro that it will be able to find all content because it's a local community. It has the con that most people won't be able to interact directly with the content as they are not subscribed via their own instance.

I was hoping to use a relative search URL and search through the user's instance. This won't work as each instance numbers the communities differently: the communityId on Lemmy.ml is different than on my own instance.

Is this helpful for anyone? Do you have any suggestions on how to improve it further?

I recently started using a tablet and pen (Wacom Intuos S if you're curious) for work and I cannot keep track of the pen - it's slim, black, and blends in with my desk. I know that this is the fountain pen community rather than an ergonomics community, but I bet you all have tips for a pen stand/holder. What do you use to keep your pen(s) close at hand?

I love that Diamine works together with the community to create new inks.

These have been out for a few months - have you had a chance to try them out? What did you think?

Note: linked to a different Youtube front-end to avoid the Youtube interface. The video is rather incidental to the post and meant to show off the inks if you haven't yet seen them.

We can upload images directly to Lemmy but that does increase the load on the instances. What other services do you recommend? Do you have a go to?

You can find us at:

I know that we have a few other digital nomad communities around but none of them seem to have taken off. Given that wayfarershaven.eu is also home to communities like !heronebag@wayfarershaven.eu and !solotravel@wayfarershaven.eu, I'm hoping to build the digital nomad community here on Lemmy.

I really enjoyed /r/lowsodiumsimmers so have created !lowsodiumsimmers@wayfarershaven.eu. Share what makes you happy about the Sims, without the added salt.
