New Insect Helmets (lemmy.world)

Has anyone still in the Liquidator Expedition managed to get one of the new insect helmets by killing a Vile Queen? I've seen people on YouTube do it with Normal saves, but I am wondering the Expedition saves are bugged (pun intended). I've been farming for a while and gotten nothing. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Did you keep playing once you completed the Omega Expedition?

I decided to build out my base on Nash 33/W4. It has an S-Class Sodium mine and all of the crops except NipNip. It is mostly built with stone with some prefab structures.

I actually hit the base part limit and had to back off so it could still be uploaded.

It's built into the nearby landscape...

A portion of the base is under ground but I did not use the Terrain Manipulator so I don't have to worry about it filling in later...

It sits across from a crashed freighter...

Now, I will probably take a break for a little bit until the next major update.

Oh good... I felt bad that I couldn't move the dumpster for Brendan in my latest playthrough.

They say, "Patience is a virtue," but that doesn't make it fun.

I just finished reading the audiobook. Overall I really liked it, but that's partially colored by the fact that I'm a fan of the Cyberpunk universe.

A couple, non-spoiler comments regarding the book.

  • It's not clear when this takes place in the timeline. It could be before, after, or during the Cyberpunk 2077 game. I'm not sure that it matters.
  • The way the book jumps between characters can be confusing. Cherami Leigh does do voices for the different characters but they are not very distinct. When the perspective jumps to a new character, it can take a moment to realize it.
  • Since there is no single protagonist, you don't really form a connection with any particular character. They each have their own reasons and motivations but none of them really stand out.
  • There are references to some minor people and places in the game. While the fanservice is cool, it does make Night City feel a little small. What are the odds that the characters of the book are in the same places, talking to the same people as the game? Luckily it doesn't happen all the time.
  • I think the connection to one or more storylines in the game is possible but tenuous. There are similarities but nothing direct.

Yeah I loved the book and the movie is a guilty pleasure of mine.

I was looking to run a 5e campaign based around the movie The 13th Warrior. The movie, and therefore this part of the campaign, can be broken down into 3 sections:

  1. The adventurers are called to a remote town that has been under attack. Houses furthest from the town center have been attacked and the families savagely killed. There's talk of an old evil that comes out when there's fog. They investigate the site of the most recent attack and find clues that may support the rumors. The next foggy night, the adventurers lay a trap and fend off a small band of attackers.
  2. Once they recover from the attack, the adventurers are told to seek guidance from a nearby seer. The seer tells them to track the attackers back to their lair and kill their leaders, a "mother" and a "warlord." The adventurers find the lair in the nearby mountains, infiltrate, and kill the "mother." Unable to find the "warlord," they escape before they can be overrun and return to the village.
  3. With the "mother" dead, the adventurers know the "warlord" will attack in force the next time the fog arrives. They spend the time they have preparing the village and villagers for the assault. The fog arrives, the "warlord" and his army lay siege to village. Once the "warlord" is killed, the remaining attackers flee with the fog.

The movie has a Norse setting and presents questions about the whether there is actual magic or just fear and superstition involved. In my campaign setting, I haven't made any thematic decisions yet. Obviously with this being D&D, the attackers can be magical but I think the more magic that's involved, the harder the campaign could be.

There are some important ways in which the campaign will differ from the movie.

First of all, there are 13 adventurers in The 13th Warrior (a surprise, I know 😏 ), though half of them are dead by #3. There will only be 3-5 party members.

Secondly, the characters in The 13th Warrior are all warriors (once again, shocking news 😏 ), i.e. martial classes, with no spellcasters among them. The party will likely have at least some spellcasters, which can make a big difference in tactics, especially if I keep the attackers caster-free.

Lastly, except for the protagonist of the movie, the warriors are clearly seasoned to some extent, which brings me to my question: Obviously the players will gain levels throughout this adventure, but what is the appropriate level to start this part of the campaign?

I always liked having karma around as a personal metric, but I never actually looked at anyone else's or went farming for it. So I think it should be added but not made a determining factor by default. If someone wants to look at someone else's karma as an evaluation, that's their choice.

Probably more important than Karma, Lemmy needs flair or tagging for posts to help with categorization and searching.

In addition to that, Lemmy (and Mastodon) eventually needs algorithmic choice. This is one place where the Fediverse falls short compared to BlueSky. A chronological feed of everything is a good place to start but let me decide what I want to view and how I want to view it. For example, if I am person that cares about karma, let me weight that so people with higher karma show up higher on my feed.
