It took me eights after my phd exam to escape from academia, so this brings back memories. Thank you.

From style this painting reminds of the art in nazi germany and fascist Italy: a heroic, over-emotional figure; technically mediocre, aimed at scoring quick points with uneducated masses. Look up images of “Italian Fascist art” - the parallels are easily recognizable. This is worrisome. Fascism tends to start by replacing “free art” and redefining what is to be regarded as really “beautiful” and politically acceptable. Combined with the book burnings that are now taking place (not yet on the streets, but digitally and in libraries and photo archives), and the deportations, it should be obvious to even the biggest idiot where this is heading.

I have been using FB and IG for more than 15 years, mainly as a promotion channel for my books and my art - with modest impact on my success. The quality of the content has been going down steadily. I started exploring the dark corners of Facebook and was shocked by the right wing, fascist posts and Russian propaganda. Last October, I pulled the plug, I left Facebook, I left Instagram, and I’m just in the process of leaving WhatsApp. Liberating!

Anyway… this is useless science for humanity. Let’s focus on saving the species that are still alive.

Statesmanship involves a steady hand, consistency in language and decision.

Politicians must always aim to be statesmen and stateswomen… and use language representative of that role.

The extinction of species is picking up speed, and instead of slowing it down by eg protecting the climate, we focus our limited resources on re-engineering one extinct animal … humanity is lost. I just finished reading this article by William Rees of the UBC about the phenomenon of overshoot, which I highly recommend. https://lnkd.in/eqJxUZrP
