I don't know why but when I first saw it I thought it was a row of caskets and the title still worked.

I use the domain for other things it's not just for this purpose just an added perk.

My favorite thing to do is I have a secondary domain name that is setup with a catch all email address mailbox. So when they ask for a email i just give them nameofstoresux@domain.com and when they say i need a real email address I say it's real. The look on their face when my phone buzzes with the recept is priceless. Then promptly back hole that address

Just FYI Firefox can be set to default to private mode. Can't steal what you don't have

Obsidian is not open source but i also think it's pretty neat.

No one was just thinking about it from high school back in the 90s

The point being made is really just the identity of user being tied to User@domain.tld vs @handle it seems like that concept has died with Web 2.0. Only thing I would improve of the fediverse. If communities could be merged with when a group of instances agree to form a network. Like how IRC does it with channels. I mean yeah there would be netsplits from time to time but it would cut down on duplication and increase the traffic of niche communities like the benefits of central platforms get but it's still distributed.

Exactly I would say the only thing that I find could improve the fediverse would be the adoption of open ID that way we could login to any instance of lemmy or mastodon using our home insurance. But I could be missing an obvious flaw with that.

😜 I love Cunningham's law. Yeah token ring sucked hard we used it with bnc coax cables and vampire taps at school.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, might have breathed in too many soap fumes.

Token Ring sends the packets to every node by passing it from one node and if that node is not the recipient it passes it on to the next node.

Memos were created the day before with a list of recipients then it was passed around till everyone on the list had read it.

I sort by new and most posts are not trash as they were on reddit. Things don't need 50k up votes to be valuable. Lemmy as a platform was the perfect blend of old school forms and reddit. Im just sad it took so long that people forgot how the internet is supposed to work.

It's like they get email is User@domain.tld but for anything else they say that's too hard. Hell even when I give my email they just assume Gmail. I swear Web 2.0 was a cancer.

If the universe is infinite we also ended up on another earth very far away where the combination atoms just happened to repeat in the same combination as here and now.

Was thinking the title was about the Linux distro and was like we can do that. but after reading this ocean algae is way beter for carbon capture than trees. They also don't tend to burn down and release that carbon.

  1. Never realize it takes place over labor day weekend until today. It hits even harder knowing that.
  2. It kind of makes me sad not knowing how the original Bell got acess to the Net without jadzia's help. That makes me think he couldn't and It was a predestination paradox and the implication is humanity couldn't put us on a path to the world of star trek on our own and we needing star fleet to push the scales. Explains a lot for our timeline.
  3. 1995 Me: Getting the voices on the Net would fix things for sure. 2024 Me: There would be a misinformation campaign to drown out those voices and used by grifters to make a quick buck off the cause. Most would just swipe to the next youtube short/reelz/TikTok video.

Yeah i made myself sad
