But, despite the provocative nature of the attacks, there is no indication that Ansarallah has violated its existing ceasefire agreement with the U.S. or that it plans to resume attacks against U.S. shipping in the region. The truce between Ansarallah and the Trump administration, which was mediated by Oman and signed in May, strictly covered direct strikes between the two entities. After weeks of fighting, the two sides agreed to a ceasefire in which the Yemeni group would agree to stop targeting U.S. ships in the Red Sea in exchange for an end to the U.S. bombing campaign.

Immediately after Trump announced what he called the “final proposal” for a Gaza deal, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu undermined the negotiating process, repeatedly announcing—in public—his intent to continue the war after securing the release of ten living Israeli captives in a temporary 60-day truce and to forge ahead with his ethnic cleansing campaign to force the surviving Palestinians out of Gaza. “After the pause, we will transfer the population in the Strip southward and impose a siege [on the rest of Gaza],” Netanyahu told far-right cabinet minister Bezalel Smotrich recently, according to Israel’s Channel 12.

Israeli forces have killed hundreds of Palestinian journalists as Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continue the ongoing genocide of Gaza and the West Bank. Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli government has murdered close to 60,000 Palestinians.... The bloodshed coincides with a ban on international media and a calculated extermination campaign to assassinate the limited number of people left to document and expose Israel’s atrocities.

“In Gaza, a camera is a threat,” Ghazaleh said. “When you witness the truth, you become a target.”

"ICE agents detained over 200 people in militarized raids on two large farms in Carpinteria and Camarillo, including a number of US citizen workers and protesters who gathered outside the facilities in response to the raids. As of Saturday morning, at least two of the abducted citizens were still reported missing by loved ones and colleagues.

“Many workers-including US citizens, were held by federal authorities at the farm for 8 hours or more,” the United Farm Workers union said in a statement. “US citizen workers report only being released after they were forced to delete photos and videos of the raid from their phones.”"

"Hamas negotiators are increasingly sceptical that a Gaza ceasefire agreement with Israel could be reached in the current round of talks in Doha, Middle East Eye has learned.

Sources close to Palestinian negotiators said talks remain deadlocked over at least two of four key issues.

The first is the extent of the proposed Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip during the 60-day truce. The second is the method of aid distribution."

A Palestinian friend who lived in my neighborhood in the US is there now, in his family's home. He said it was like 3 nights in a war zone.

Yes, sorry, I fixed both of them.

Yes, it always was, but the fact that staunch Zionists acknowledge it now is another step forward in public opinion, and will make it politically more difficult to attack the Palestinian solidarity movement.

OK, thanks for the heads-up.

Most of us here know that, but many others beyond the Fediverse are still not convinced. Video documentation and expert testimony of horrible crimes is often effective in changing public opinion.

[–] pete_link@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

Yes, it did change. But I still think that your concern is misplaced and that the Guardian's error came nowhere close to misinformation.

I should have mentioned the most important factor was the heroic struggle and sacrifice of the Vietnamese people, which did inflict many casualties on the US.

But the massive demonstrations in the US and around the world helped change the consciousness of millions, which ultimately even affected the thinking of the troops fighting in Vietnam. Many times the representatives of the NLF and DRV recognized the vital role of the US antiwar movement.

Unfortunately, both the USSR and China did not do much to help Vietnam, and Nixon was able to play them off pretty well.
