Thursday, November 07, 2024: FLS - International Stout Day

I don't have any soaps with stout as an ingredient, but this shave was full of vanilla, oak, smoke, and darkness. I think it fits the bill.

I love the scent of Lavanille. Dark, mysterious, and rich. It's one that I might get a full set of when the sample is out.

Oops, looks like I accidentally crossposted this from Mastodon? 🤔

Show and Tell: Neovim SOTD Plugin (sub.wetshaving.social)

I had the day off today, so I hacked together a port of the SOTD emacs plugin that @PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social uses.

It's still a pretty rough implementation, but I wanted to share the repository here in case others who use Neovim might want to help me kick the tires. I'm fully aware that this is a niche within a niche, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take!

I know there's some cleanup that needs to happen, and the config file format could use a bit more thought, but it works well enough for now. If anyone feels compelled to use it I'd welcome any feedback either here or on the repo itself.

The code is hosted on GitHub here.

Arkadia buddies! ❤️

  • Brush: Simpson - Trafalgar T2
  • Razor: Rockwell - 6C (R3 plate)
  • Blade: Astra - Superior Platinum (3)
  • Lather: Stirling - Arkadia
  • Post: Stirling - Arkadia AS splash
  • Post: Ginger's Garden - Unscented AS balm (+menthol)
  • Frag: Stirling- Arkadia EdT

I'm glad I took today off to recover from the election chaos. The sun rose as always and I was able to take my time with this luxurious (™️) shave. It left me feeling super refreshed.

I love the scent of Arkadia, one of my favorite Stirling dupes.

Have a great day y'all!

Sweet, message sent :)

November 5, 2024 - SLS

  • Brush: Zenith - B21 boar
  • Razor: Gillette - Super Speed Black Tip
  • Blade: Gillette - Perma-Sharp (2)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Seville
  • Post: Pinaud - Clubman AS splash
  • Post: Ginger's Garden - Unscented AS balm (+menthol)
  • Frag: Mäurer & Wirtz - Tabac EdC

Tonight I felt like combining some comforting barbershop-esque scents. (Does Tabac count as a barbershop scent?) It was a long night -- some comfort felt appropriate.

My wife and I spent the evening with friends watching the election results trickle in, and to say we were disappointed is an understatement. Gutted is more like it.

Life will go on, but I'm concerned about the direction it seems we'll now be pointing.

Do good for those around you, that's the most important thing.

I love the color scheme here!

It's another protocol for secure decentralized communication. Also offers e2e encryption.

I use Element as a client, but there are others.

I usually face lather and get consistently good results at this point.

However, when I get a .5 oz. or less sample I'll smush the soap down into a thin, even layer using one of those collapsible slow-feed pet bowls. Every time I get a foamy bullshit lather.

I'm unsure how to get an equally wet and slick lather with the bowl. Do I just need to keep adding water? Move to the face sooner? Give up and grow a beard?
