The hard part is "that add value". Not only it's hard to measure, but highly depends on scope of what is done

I find inability to record/screenshot (both audio and pictures) the most annoying. They actively broke call recording because "what if it's illegal", then published their own call recorder, but only in India, or something like that.

If I have something on screen I always can take a picture with another camera, creating obstacles doesn't add privacy, it only serves to deter the laziest of bad actors and actual fair users

For instance, social media apps and shopping apps will know if you took interest in something, not just guess based on time you observed the screen. Besides, they will think you liked something even if the reason was not that

The team I'm part of wants to ditch Nix in favour of just about anything, because no one wants to maintain Nix and everyone sees it as just source of problems :(

I agree that it was complicated to learn Nix for me, too, but now I see benefits in it but I can't make them change their mind and tired of trying. Nix could've been much easier to advocate for if the language itself wasn't this esoteric

I may be too far from Python to tell, but it looks kind of incorrect to equate the author and their product. What if Guido decides to stop contributing, will Python end then? Creators of Rust spoken about the fact that Rust went very much not the way they wanted it to, this doesn't make them not creators, nor does it make Rust not Rust

First of all, thank you for a thoughtful response, I was too snarky, sorry about that.

TL;DR: guess I'm just upset that there is no objective way of measuring how much knowledge is required, and trying to read everything from sources list would take forever.

Yeah, the last point is sort of a strawman, although I meant it not to highlight that explanations should be given in terms that the reader is used to, but rather that the reader may have quite arbitrary amount of prior knowledge.

I agree that there probably should be some shared context, what bugs me is that people tend to vary a lot in what amount of context is considered to be required. And more than once have I met papers that require deciphering even if you have some context and kind of come from the field they are written for. I used to think that this is our of malice to make reproducing their work harder for others, but maybe it was just an assumption of much larger shared context.

Tables markdown work in some clients, afaik, but I don't remember which, and even if I saw it or imagined it

Nah, this could've been possible with some clever fuckery in defining those emojis' unicode content, like with flags that are not a single point but three independent ones, allowing you to do this:

"🇧🇬".reverse() == "🇬🇧"
"🇬🇪".reverse() == "🇪🇬"
[-] sukhmel@programming.dev 10 points 1 week ago

Yet we live in a world where

"🇧🇬".reverse() == "🇬🇧" and "🇬🇪".reverse() == "🇪🇬"

Afaik, comes from Latin that had no "U" and "V" was both vowel and consonant until some point in time.

The top text reads: "This is a placebo meme".

The bottom text is: "Studies show placebo Memes are still reacted to even when users know they are a placebo"

It seems that the web UI treats spoilers without a space after ::: the same as the regular ones, while Thunder ignores those as spoilers. It looks like the closing spoiler marker may be entered without whitespace but it consumes extra text after the spoiler, and overall acts weird

I can create an issue if that's needed, or this post may be referenced in an existing issue to be used as a test

no whitespace Content
whitespace present Content
one-liner no whitespaceContent
one-liner whitespace present Content
Extra text in the end
one-liner whitespace present Content
Second extra text

produces

no whitespace

Content

whitespace present

Content

one-liner no whitespaceContent

one-liner whitespace presentContent

Extra text in the end

one-liner whitespace presentContent

Second extra text

It's going to be her first New Year 😅

We don't erect a new year tree but there was a storm that broke lots of branches off trees, so we used one of those to create a holiday air

I can't seem to find a definition for different kinds of icons Sync uses for special users, e.g. I know how OP and my account are denoted, I have seen bot accounts marked, also I guess that I have seen a mark where a user blocked me.

Is there a place where I can check what each pictogram means and what are the possible ones?
