40 years of this. It's sad that more people feel this way, yet relating to people who feel this way is all I seek.

How in the world can you say most of the GOP has their shit together when all they've done is support Trump? Block anything Democrat backed? I don't understand where you're coming from at all.

The headline made it sound like the Republicans avoided it; that's all. You know most Republicans don't read anything more than a headline. :) I'm mostly frustrated with that is all. The context almost always leans differently.

Republicans avoid shutdown by cutting deal with Democrats over their own party’s hardliners

Any Republican who reads that, what do you think they read? I know what I think, and, unfortunately, as an observer of those people's reactions, I'm positive that's how they'll read it.

"“They’re seeking to blame and penalize and marginalize the victims rather than take the steps they haven’t found the political will to take,” said Eric Tars, the senior policy director at the National Homelessness Law Center."

What will they do with them? Jail them? Take them to a firing squad? Where will they go? I've been temporarily homeless before, and at the time, I had a couch I could surf, but now? I have lost all those people due to various pandemic-related reasons, and I'm living on borrowed time here. I could very easily become homeless again because I'm partially disabled but don't qualify for government assistance (FPL is $17,000 for a single person...you don't qualify for food stamps or Medicaid if you make more than that), then what? I'm punished because of who I am? My inability to work more? My bad luck of having no friends or family?

I'm a voting Democrat, and I like to believe that the people who have always voted Democrat, not side switchers, would never want this to happen. But man, I'm so sick of having my faith in humanity tested, every day. Stop punishing people for being born or forced into poverty. The CEO of Intuit, for example, a major corporation in California, could probably feed and house all of the nation's poor and still net a cool quarter bill.

Sounds like what the US (or some states) did with COVID-19 and tried to do with the election. STOP THE COUNT! /s

What a misleading headline. Makes it sound like the Republicans did the hard work.

What is life? We are in the evil timeline.

If there are still Facebook and Twitter users, of which we know there are, nothing will kill Reddit.

However, I'll say I'm someone not good at change but am agoraphobic, so my only "connection" was Reddit, and I finally gave in and deleted for good.

Still getting used to this platform, but hopefully can find less toxic users here. Social media seems to be made special for bullies.
