There's a recommendation in the comments for revisionist history book that centers the Comanche perspective you called "The Comanche Empire" by Pekka Hämäläinen. The Finn dude's like a fucking Rhodes scholar of American History specializing in Native American history. Apparently he also has a book called "Lakota America: A New History of Indigenous Power".
