I remember reading about a trend where unfunny and usually problematic comedians will dive into right wing politics, because they will always have a platform and an audience. Rob Schneider immediately comes to mind.

I was never a Rogan fan, but he has gone further and further right every time I hear him. He's always had some weird ideas, but he was not like this back at the start of his standup career.

I can’t stand people defending Rohan bc “he brings on interesting guests ‘from both sides.’”

His overall theme is platforming ignorance and conspiracy.

I can’t stand people defending Rohan

Been saying this for years. Are we truly to believe that Rohan played no part in supplying Sauron with the black horses his army so coveted? Despite knowing full well the riches promised to Rohan by Sauron himself in exchange for quality horseflesh? I’m just saying it’s worth looking into further.

Typical Make Aragorn Great Again rhetoric.

What a hilarious autocorrect!

Leaving it to confuse future historians.

I love how by default it was like, "he brought Bernie on!" Motherfucker that was years ago. His right-wing hack friends are on regularly. It's like saying Fox News is okay just for having Colmes back in the day.

The thing with Joe was that he originally was interested in talking about the marginalized people. Interesting people that have been cast aside. The thing he didn't realize was that they had agendas and he's not fucking smart enough to figure out what was going on.

He kept his mind so open that his brain fell out.

Eh. Rogans comedy has always been douchey bro humor. Super cringey from the start.

And this is coming from someone who was a fan of his MMA commentary and wanted to like his comedy.

Sure, douchey bro humor, but not overt right-wing shit, which is what he's doing now. Just full-on MAGA stuff.

at first I thought you were talking about seth rogan and was shocked he had taken a right turn

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

That would definitely be a stretch.

Maggie Mae Fish has a video on this topic comparing, in fact, Rob Schneider's parody of comedy to Tim Heidecker's satire of conservative comedy.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Oh nice, I have got to watch this.

That Heidecker bit is fucking gold

"[revealing...] the hollowness and existential dread at the core of conservative humor"
Beautiful! It's the same over 'ere in Europe.
