Late answer, but if you have any interest in IT, go for it. Operational security is an often overlooked part of creating resilient organisations. And you would be surprised at how terrible many organisations' tech systems are.
Other than literally becoming a militant, becoming an IT technician in an org might be the closest thing you can become to directly strengthening an org.
