UK Politics
General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

Supporting Palestinian armed resistance is not cool in the West Bank... where Israel is currently bulldozing UNRWA offices.
I would have zero problem with West Bank Palestinians striking back at the local Jewish settlers. I will feel no joy from that, but the local settlers earned that. I would much prefer if the world banking system will block them and they will be all charged with war crimes.
UNRWA should be dismantled completely. They double dipped as Hamas members, made up funny definition for refugees, promoted conflict and lead to no long term solution. UNHCR may be more successful, after all, they are good enough for all other refugees.
An independent review finds no evidence for Israel's claims about UNRWA and Hamas
Thorough investigation takes time.

Till August the UN found that nine had to be fired. By their next report we will see more double dippers.
Would take less time if Israel provided any evidence for its claims. UNRWA cannot even ascertain if these allegations are true,
The word may will be used for any evidence that is not strong as said UNRWA employees bursting into the OIOS armed with guns, marked with Hamas headband and shouting slogans. Even if they have pay slips from Hamas or video evidence they will use the word may. It's a common usage in formal text. But don't trust me, open scientific papers from high impact journals. You will find the word 'may' being used in a similar fasion.
As for evidence from Israel, it goes down to he-said. As Israel claims they provided evidence[0]. As both sides have interest to lie, I don't believe any of them.
It will take a lot of time for a clearer picture to emerge. But in the meantime you can collect puzzle pieces by your self. For example, Hamas' announcement on the death of head of operations in Lebanon [1] raised a familiar name! The beloved school manager that UNRWA suspended [2]

I'm not going to bother with the Israeli government link. And UNWatch is funded by Israel so same thing for that.
But I did I click the Guardian link which led to https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2024/sep/30/israel-attacks-live-blog-lebanon-yemen-hamas-hezbollah-news-updates-middle-east-crisis?filterKeyEvents=false&page=with%3Ablock-66fa3c0f8f08441851818975#block-66fa3c0f8f08441851818975.
But that does not cite where Hamas said it either.
I don't trust al mayadeen, as they are Hizzbulah mouthpiece. But they will not spread fake news to support Israel.

Thank you for bringing receipts. I had not found the Almaydeen article.
I still wonder where the quote comes from as even Almaydeen does not attribute it. But they are indeed a more credible source on this.
I assume, but don't know, that Hamas has a spokesperson that wrote it, and sent it to news agencies.
Is that the same UNRWA that has Hamas fighters working for them?
Yes the UNRWA armed Palestinian resistance faction.
Thank you for explaining why it is pointless for Palestinians not to engage in armed resistance. Israeli will say they did so anyway.
Nine of them were involved in the October 7th attacks, and there's proof that more are still Hamas fighters, but I know that people aren't interested in facts because they just want to bash Israel at every opportunity.
Israel should release that proof then. Unless they do not have it.
UNRWA themselves admitted it in September. The head of Hamas in Lebanon was an UNRWA employee.
Most of the money that goes to UNRWA ends up in the hands of Hamas.
Allegations of 9 people in an organization of 12.000 being Hamas is one thing.
Extrapolating that to all UNRWA funding going to Hamas is an amazing stretch of reality.
By the way can you link the Hamas announcement of this person being Hamas? The AP article does not link it. It quotes the IDF claiming Hamas said it.
...what?
UNRWA admits he was working with Hamas and had suspended him, but you need Hamas themselves to say it?
No UNRWA is not saying that either. The media is saying Israel claims that Hamas said that he was Hamas.
I actually went through quite a few articles and even translated the Arab page linked on Wikipedia which turned out to be complete gibberish. So I am currently wondering if this entire thing is made up because it really looks like it.

Literally the first paragraph.
