I think while they invented it in the 14th century, they spent the 15th century perfecting it. ๐Ÿ˜…

The distillation process was still in its infancy; whisky itself was not allowed to age, and as a result tasted very raw and brutal compared to today's versions.

Oh, I'm sure. I'm also sure there were many other things going on in that century. I just like the idea that they were drunk as fuck for almost four times as long as I've been drunk.
