I wonder if the Shapiro types just aren't that popular any more/are losing their billionaire funding and this is Kirk's attempt to pivot to a new audience, so to speak.

It does seem like the Shapiros are losing steam in favor of the Alex Jones type. The next most popular are gaming streamers like Asmongold who do dumb guy centrism and allow the right-wing to guide them in their direction

Alex Jones is a lot wackier and I bet a large proportion of his audience started out watching him ironically or just seeing him as a harmless comedic crank before slowly getting sucked in until they emerged on the other side as true believers.

Ben Shapiro is thoroughly unfunny and radiates powerful loser energy which is not helped by him being short and people (unfairly) associating short men with losers who suffer from a Napoleon complex. The only people who don't see his loser aura are already true believers.
