Sorry for the reddit-logo link but here you go

Honestly I'd recommend Doan's Island, 08th MS Team and War in the Pocket first if you're looking at OYW stuff. Just good stand-alone stories that flesh out the Gundam universe. After that I'd just move on ahead to Unicorn and Hathaway, because those directly continue the story after Char's Counterattack. Then after that maybe Thunderbolt and the rest of Tomino's stuff.

Origins is an ok watch but it's kinda superfluous as a prequel (also the Char retcons issue), 0083 is just bad and safe to skip. Thunderbolt is good, but it's also kinda a more modern take on Gundam that I'd suggest you come back to after having seen stuff like Unicorn.

Oh and whatever you do avoid the new Netflix 3d Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance like the plague. It's bad in so many ways I don't have the time to get into now lol.

Cool! I'll check out the one year war stuff, feels like a safe bet for what I'm looking for. I was hoping tommostlt get OVAs and one offs instead of entire other series. I'm a star trek fan and am finding there's too ma u TV serieses
