Hello users of Hexbear, there have been many changes and some drama the past few months.
The recent changes we've been making have been an attempt to create a more safe and welcoming environment for many demographics that have been overlooked in the past.
For any of our comrades that have been unintentionally hurt in this process, we apologise and hope to find a solution that accommodates as many people as possible while still meeting the needs of the marginalised groups who need a space like this the most.
The intent of this post is to provide a space for all users to air grievances with regard to the site. As well as provide suggestions for specific things that could be changed to address your grievance. Comments insulting the mod team or those without a specific means to address your problem may be removed. No commenter will be sitebanned, unless it clearly breaks the code of conduct.
There has been a lot of talk about potential changes to how we feature/site-pin posts.
Basically there are two sides, one that says use the +/- icon on the bottom right of the featured posts to hide them and pin as many posts as we want.
The other side has proposed on having a single "portal" post featured, and within that post all top level comments must be a megathread, event (hextube/reading group), or fundraiser. In the event of a meta-post it will be featured along-side the portal which will be updated as new megathreads/events/fundraisers are commented
I think long-term discussions (megas, reading groups past a chapter's first day) and events (announcements, hextube) are pinned for different reasons (easy access for places a bunch of people use for the former, "hey everybody look at this thing" for the latter), and probably should be featured via different mechanisms.
i dont understand what you mean by featured via different mechanisms
Portal post, side bar, and pinning are three different mechanisms to feature a post.
The right solution for long term discussions might not be the right solution for announcements and events. They don't need to use the same thing.
