this makes me wonder: you think rats have adapted to humans? like, maybe they know humans don't care about them, but they also know predators stay away from humans, so the rat is using the human as a mobile shield or camouflage basically.
In a general sense, rats have most definitely adapted around humans in similar ways. They're smart little critters
