Everybody knows that Wikipedia is literally unrefutable fact, especially on controversial or political topics. Why would someone lie or omit facts on the internet??? Next you're going to tell me that I can't trust CIA press releases too!!!
You can't! Except the ones where they say Stalin was the best.
Usually Wikipedia is okay if, as it says, you use it as ‘a starting point for serious research, not an endpoint.’ The problem is that, in practice, roughly 95% of the people referencing it don’t use it this way and instead mistake it as a substitute for serious research.
It’s basically the Walmart of educational materials.
Everyone knows teachers love it when you use Wikipedia in school, it's a real problem in some high schools because it's a trick to get an easy A, if your teacher assigns you a topic for a paper you can just send them the wikipedia link for it and they'll be forced to give you an A because you don't actually need to do the work yourself in school

Wikipedia is notoriously untrustworthy and gets brigades heavily by the CIA, especially on topics like this.
For better sources, use this. Look for gulags and the purges you mention and see what is written.

Stalin was one of the socialist leaders of the USSR that was present to be the leader when the Nazis were trying to slaughter them for their race and their way of life. Stalin acted as a leader and the people emerged victorious, which helped Stalin act as an avatar representing Socialism on earth. This cult of personality was not encouraged, but the effect remained. Stalin in Russia is the human meme representation of socialism.
I won't say that all socialist projects need to look like what Stalin created. However spreading lies about what Stalin did as a socialist leader is undermining the socialist project as a whole in Russia. Putin is an anti-communist that seeks to undermine socialism in Russia, thus he lies about Stalin.
Putin does praise Stalin in implicit like in Valdai conference of 2016 , he said if USSR didn't centralize resources, education, military industrial complex then Russia as a nation wouldn't have survived. Also Putin has banned comparing Stalin to Hitler. No doubt Putin dislikes communists but he is not pro Hitler or equates USSR to fascism. Although Putin and entourage are not communists hates progressive ideological standpoint. But don't worry 71 percent of Russians love Stalin. Actually to know Stalin you have to talk to old Russians who were under Stalin rule and most of them loved the time.

If the Russian youth are educated on the benefits of a revolution, they'll want a revolution. You could ask the same question about the CIA or the counter revolutionary forces around the world or the Western press. Why is it that people who are part of the bourgeoisie do their best to discredit socialists efforts? All bourgeois leaders and especially those in post-socialist countries have a vested interest in denigrating and slandering the political and economic system of the Soviet Union because that is the best way to prevent a resurgence of enthusiasm for socialism which is a threat to their power and the capitalist system they have built.

There's just as much the CIA can patch, Wikipedia still provide a good account of famous historical events and plenty cross links, you can search for yourself and read the individual history of many who died on gulags or that got send there. Not even the CIA can spin history 360 degrees

For starters you could read actual socialist theory but I know you won't. If you're truly acting in good faith, give youtuber Hakim a listen. Or The Deprogram podcast. Or Second Thought. They have various videos covering a multitude of starter* topics and they provide sources with their claims.
Edit: if you're looking for insights on how the CIA does spin history 180 degrees (360 is a circle, btw, you'd end up at the same point) then give The Jakarta Method a read.

i love when liberals pull the commie brainwash card, as if we dont already live in a capitalist dominated world where people are taught that capitalism is the only viable economic system. Be it in a TV-series, in the News, in the Radio, in documentaries....pretty much every media-outlet when mentioning socialism treats it as a failed, murderous joke and nothing else....it is presented to us, without explanation most of the time, that socialism is evil, undemocratic, killed 100 Gorbachovillian people and that capitalism is the only economic system that "works". We are not brainwashed you are the one feeding off liberal propaganda

The writer uses the term "licensing". Which I think is appropriate. We can show them that their entire society is propaganda, but they will brush it off as if it's not proving anything, then embrace the term propaganda when it's not part of their embedded culture. "Licensing", because the libs and america have a license to do bad things, even while judging others for doing those same things.
