Do not many people use this website, or is 105 wpm top speed and 87 wpm average speed actually that crazy? I just learned to type like this in high school.
As far as I understand it, most folks growing up these days do everything on their smart phones or tablets. Like, teachers sometimes have literally gotten entire essays written on a phone. (I would go crazy trying to do that...but people make do with the tech they're given when young, and get good at it.)
So, for some segment of the population--yeah, touch-typing on a physical keyboard is no longer a thing. And even when I was young, people getting truly good at it 80+ wpm was pretty rare. You had to be into writing, either as a hobby, or as an unavoidable part of your job.
That's wild! I'm in my mid 30s and assumed that kids were only learning touch typing more than I had in school (it was an optional class). Conversely, I go insane trying to type something of any real length on a phone/tablet screen and I'm sure a lot of them could screen type way faster than me.
A lot of people I see don't even type in their phones they use voice to text also which I haven't done because I don't like talking to myself in public haha my brother in law also now sends voice recordings instead of texts which annoys me because I can't just quickly read a message
Wow that's awesome I'm still around 50 and I also took a typing class in highschool but I never really put the effort in to touch type until very recently because typing became more common with my job so I decided to finally start doing it right
