A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Pro CCP copypasta and genocide denial. Classy.
Who cares if it's copypasta? It's well sourced to the point where you're completely unable to come up with any sort of counter-argument. "ItS gEnOcIdE dEnIAl!". Then prove it libtard.
Believing Chinese fairytales and demand sources. You people are amazing.
This isn't an argument. Thank you for proving my point.
Aaawwweee! Thaaaanks! ☺️
@o_d @rustyfish “awee” your self to the toilet. The article isn’t well sourced: “Boris Grozovski, a Russian economics expert from the Wilson Center think tank, told Newsweek…” that’s also ignorant of the fact that this is a comparison of the economic growth of Russia, a country with an gdp equivelant to Italy vs the dominant economic power over the entire planet aka the USA. California the state makes more money than russia. You’re desperate/stupid. “Awee” away dumbass
Okay, but you're missing the point. The argument that @C4RCOSA@lemmygrad.ml makes is in the first line of their first post in this thread.
Nothing you've stated does anything to disprove the evidence presented nor does it disprove the statement made in isolation of any evidence.
Edit: I suppose it was naive of me to assume that any of you reactionaries would have bothered to actually read the content that you're supposedly refuting. Your dogmatism is clearly on display here.
@o_d @C4RCOSA I’m replying to your nonsense replies propping up the BS article in the first place. There also happens to be plenty of data to support that Russia is not flourishing, and is legit suffering from sanctions. No shortage of evidence there. From fielding tanks out of the 50s, to their private and commercial air fleets… you’d have to be ignorant to claim blue skies. You’re spouting the trumpian BS of “people are saying” while claiming other people have no source
@o_d @C4RCOSA that’s not to say they are on the verge of total collapse either. But def not roses and sunshine. Sorry I couldn’t previously add more as mastodon limits character count and has no simple down vote mechanism. It’s a bit weird seeing replies with no mention of what they’re replying to, spread across the space with equal prominence as original posts. At times it feels like mastodon has no concept of threads and this everything is noise compared to signal
Chinese homeownership is 89% compared to the united states 65% under Xi Jinping's tenure
Chinese poverty has continued to decrease under Xi Jinping's tenure
Chinese literacy rate has continued to increase and is higher than the United States
Chinese maternal mortality rate has continued to decrease while the Untied States is increasing
China's homicide rate has continued to decrease while the United States is increasing
China's suicide rate has continued to decrease while the United States is increasing

I feel sorry for those that live in the west, maybe if you vote hard enough your oligarch will grant you a crumb or a low interest morgage
Having to compare oneself with the capitalist hellhole that is the United States just to look good is really telling for China.
Also more copypasta. I give up.
Couldn't be because you have nothing substantial to say must be bacuse i'm a copypasta tankie wumao
I, for one, found your posts informative, thank you.
Chinese homeownership is 89% Germany's is 49.5
Germany's Suicide Rate is 12.3 average compared to 8.1
China gdp growth rate for 2021 was 8.11%, a 5.87% increase from 2020.
Germany gdp growth rate for 2021 was 2.63%, a 6.32% increase from 2020.
Per: http://datatopics.worldbank.org/world-development-indicators/
Germany does have lower crime, better literacy, and a lower maternal mortality rate however I would like to add that China's vast rural areas have improved immensely from 1949 onward.
The quality of these "homes" might want to be taken into account. When the building falls down because there's no real inspection process, are the survivors compensated by the state that failed them?

"The Second Intermediate People’s Court of Tianjin ruled in January that death was justified because Lai took “especially enormous” bribes to make investments, offer construction contracts, help with promotions and provide other favors."
In the western world this corruption gets a nominal "fine" that they have a section for when creating their corporate budgets
Are you saying that this is the case? What are your sources?

Easy enough to find more.
I can also do a search for "building collapse" and cherrypick articles that appear to support my claim, but random individual instances do not prove a systemic issue. The part of the article that you quoted is an unsubstantiated claim without any backing evidence or sources.
I'd rather pound my pecker flat with a mallet than try to convince a tankie that China isn't the greatest country in the universe and completely above criticism.
