!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

MODERATORS

So for some fucktastically stupid reason, the automod replies to removed messages provides a link that only returns a server error.

Secondly, the reply message does not even tell you the community it was posted in.

How the FUCK are we supposed to know what we did wrong if we can't see it?

Mod code of conduct only works when someone above the mods gives a fuck about enforcing it.

and as we saw with reddit, the only time admins stepped in to deal with mods was..when subreddits were protesting reddits own bullshit.

You could limit the damage by at least preventing people from amassing ridiculous amounts of power by becoming moderators on hundreds/thousands of subsites.

Sure, but for the time being the admins on Lemmy are actively trying to set up something better than Reddit. Without the profit incentive, that might continue to happen

I agree about the power mods problem

Still have admins and mods. Cant reinvent the wheel, all you'll end up doing is creating a more convoluted and obtuse wheel.

That function can be crowdsourced, you don't need individuals to moderate effectively, you just need an engaged userbase with 10% responsible people.

Yeah.. cause people do so well at running things. Just look at this beautiful utopia we live in.

The reason why we are in a capitalistic death spiral is BECAUSE power is concentrated in the hands of a few sociopaths.

Crowdsourcing has shown net positives in nearly every study it is examined, including several interesting TED talks about altruistic human cooperation.

The thing is, the few psychopaths at the top think EVERYONE thinks like them, which is why they assume that without the fear of starvation that no one would ever do anything productive. Because THEY wouldn't.

When the REAL truth is the vast majority of humanity is cooperative, creative, and generous, but those traits do not help when climbing power structures, which is why all the assholes seem to flow to the top.

If you trust people and have a large enough crowd, the good nearly always outweighs the bad, like that collaberative pong game where they gave everyone in the audience laser pointers to control two pong paddles.

Sure some jerkwads deliberately tried to work against the group, but they were very few and the game was played meaningfully and the crowd had fun, BECAUSE the cooperative collaboration impulse in the vast majority of people outweighs the destructive impulse.

Think of guys digging a hole on a beach, for no profit, for mostly no reason but they'll get a HUGE ton of guys to help dig that hole. And sure there's some yahoos there that will kick sand back in or try to collapse walls, but they are far outpaced by the eager and happy people just digging a hole for no reason because it is fun and who knows what might happen.

If we had direct democracy in all things, in all laws, and in complete legal reform, I think we could have a world a lot closer to utopia than capitalism can ever come.
